The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to make the student feel comfortable and enjoy learning. As the say goes “no bad subjects, only bad teachers†the more comfortable a student is the more they would enjoy the subject My strength definitely would be the ability to make students feel comfortable so they dont worry…

A tutor needs to be able to guide students not only through the subject but their educational career as a whole. Tutors should be able to provide general feedback on learning as a whole to their students and should always be ready to support students particularly in harder periods such as the exam period. I have heaps of practice SACs and exams…

I believe the most important thing is to be well-prepared ahead of the session and have good knowledge of the subject. In addition to these, the tutor must be empathetic to the child's needs, effectively communicate and also tailor the teaching methods as every student is different and has varied learning needs and capabilities. This will also…

A tutor needs to be a strong support for the student. Providing a comfortable environment where the student can discuss and barriers to learning that may be affecting them without the fear of judgement or doubt will enhance the learning experience by many fold. Tutors must be flexible and adjustable to adapt to the student's learning style and…

I feel the most important things a physics tutor can do is to allow the student to grow in their ability to approach problems/ tasks with less assistance progressively, and to instil confidence in the student, that they can achieve if they put in the effort. I feel my passion to help students is my biggest strength. I take this responsibility very…

Inside WildwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jamie practised reading analogue time and explored the properties of 3D shapes, also revisiting times tables as a holiday task.

For Year 9, Zoe focused on algebraic expansion and factorisation alongside work with indices and surds, tackling expressions step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas worked through trigonometry basics such as SOH CAH TOA and applied these skills to worded problems for real-world context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student's working for area and multiplication was described as "a little messy," making it harder to spot errors or review steps later.

In Year 10 algebra, a tutor noted that equations were sometimes written with sign confusion—misplaced negatives crept in when layout got rushed.

For VCE General Maths, worded problems involving cutting shapes into triangles for trigonometry proved difficult, especially when diagrams weren't clearly labelled or organized.

In Year 11, "minor mistakes in older topics" emerged because previous notes lacked detail, so revision became guesswork instead of confident recall.

Recent Achievements

One Wildwood tutor noticed a big shift in Thomas, a Year 11 student, who now tackles financial maths questions with much less hesitation—he used to need reminders for each formula, but last session he managed compound interest problems both by hand and calculator on his own.

Meanwhile, Hugo (Year 6) has started showing real independence: after weeks of prompting, he now remembers the steps for long division and often finishes questions without any help.

Marcel in Year 4 recently surprised his tutor by quickly placing fractions on a number line after only minimal guidance—something that was confusing just two lessons ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sunbury Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Goonawarra Primary School.
