Creating a safe space for students to make mistakes and feel empowered to grow academically is important. From personal experience as a student and as a tutor, I have found a mutual understanding and respect to be fundamental for a successful tutor experience. Functioning with a logical brain and studying engineering has allowed me to view…

I believe every student has their own way of learning, so I focus on building a study routine that works for them — whether it’s setting up a realistic revision schedule, practicing exam-style questions, or using targeted strategies to tackle procrastination. My approach is to pinpoint their strengths, address any gaps, and equip them with…

Giving a student the time and attention they need to ensure they can fully understand difficult concepts. In school (and university), there were many concepts in maths and physics that I struggled with. Asking the teacher sometimes worked, but often in a busy class they couldn't give me the time I needed to talk through exactly what I was…

I strongly believe that tutor should never give up on any students and respect student's own learning style. Each students has their own learning styles that they are comfortable with, or if they haven't yet developed their own style, it's tutor's duty to let them find their own to maximize each student's potential. With my international…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them realise the small learning mistakes commonly made that in my opinion are not useful further in life. Help them actually understand the material, not just get the right answer that one time. Keep their confidence up so they don't start believing they're just bad at the subject. A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

Inside WindsorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Nicholas practised converting mixed numbers to decimals and ordering decimals, then moved on to rounding decimals to different place values.

In Year 9, Ava worked through SOH-CAH-TOA trigonometry rules for right triangles and solved word problems using the Pythagorean theorem.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Matthew focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions—including perfect squares—and applied these skills in exercises involving difference of two squares.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, incomplete homework meant key credit card and interest concepts were forgotten—this showed up in quiz struggles. "A significant amount of knowledge...was lost over the last week due to incompletion of homework," a tutor noted.

In Physics (Year 12), written work for mechanics topics was sometimes hard to follow, with missed steps during multi-part calculations leading to errors that slowed progress on Module 5 questions.

For a Year 8 student, skipping working on paper and relying only on mental maths led to confusion in algebra problems; this habit made it harder to spot where mistakes crept in.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Windsor noticed one high school student who used to skip note-taking now diligently writes down key tips and even refers back to them when tackling new material.

Another secondary student, after weeks of struggling with logarithms, finally began applying log rules independently during practice questions, marking a real turning point in their understanding.

In Year 4, a younger learner who often guessed at answers started raising her hand to ask clarifying questions instead—showing she's becoming more comfortable seeking help rather than staying silent or guessing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prahran / Windsor Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Windsor Primary School.
