The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to build confidence in them. Enabling them to feel motivated in learning and to feel a sense of self-growth ultimately enhances their independence in learning, such as time management, organization skills, and self-assessment. My strengths as a tutor include a passion for teaching and…

A tutor's purpose is to cover a student's weak points that they may not be able to understand in school. They need to be able to effectively supplement a student and allow them to reach their full potential. I believe my ability to draw on my own experiences in order to explain difficult concepts more easily. This also combines with my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to always prepare for the upcoming lessons, and summarise the concepts in a way that the class will flow in a fluid manner, without any interruptions, whilst making sure the students understand the concepts. I make sure the individual actually understands what I am trying to teach, instead…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is help build a student’s confidence. Many students struggle not because they lack ability but because they doubt themselves. A tutor’s role is to change that narrative by creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn without fear of…

As a tutor I think it's extremely important to create a comfortable learning environment that allows the student to raise any questions and concerns, so that we are able to meet their personal needs and goals and achieve the academic outcomes and objectives they are seeking. By providing one on one sessions I believe tutors have the opportunity to…

The most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, create a supportive learning environment, and help them develop problem-solving skills. A tutor should guide the student to understand the “why†behind what they are learning, not just memorise answers. My strengths are patience, clear communication, and the…

I believe that the most important thing tutors can do for a student is to establish a resilient mindset in students. A student needs to understand that they are always capable of achieving their goals and to not give up. As a tutor, I can enforce this method of thought in students and bring about positive attitudes towards learning. My strengths…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is help them feel more comfortable in choosing a path during and after school. Getting to know a student through tutoring can allow me to help them find the aspects of academics and general life which they really enjoy, which can help them set a path to the future. Tutoring can also allow…

Students may seek tuition for one of two main reasons: - They feel they are underperforming, and so want their tutors to help them relearn the basics to bring their performance up to their desired baseline - They want to excel in the subject beyond simply passable marks, and so want to prepare for the hardest possible questions and secure the…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, foster independent thinking, and create a safe space for learning. I think a tutor must know how a student learns and understands the subject and give them time to understand and test the information they learn. When I was a student, I found that I learnt best when I would test what I thought I knew with difficult questions that required a new approach. While my academic performance is great, with a 96 in…

A tutor should be able to admit when they are wrong because it does happen. a tutor should be able to say something similar to "I struggled with this topic" but most importantly a tutor should have a vast array of knowledge in their field. My strengths are my advanced knowledge of topics that many students struggle with. Not only this but my way…

Our daughter is enjoying having someone (who isn't either of her parents, and has more patience than we do as well!) take her step by step through what she doesn't 'get' and then work out strategies that will help her understand what the question is asking and how to approach it.

Inside Winston HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Kent focused on solving simultaneous equations and revising trigonometry concepts, including working through bearing problems with diagrams.

Year 11 student Miles worked on factorisation techniques and deepened understanding of logarithms, using real-world word problems to reinforce concepts.

Meanwhile, another Year 10 student tackled coordinate geometry by practicing mid-point and distance formulas as well as plotting points on graphs for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without finishing several homework pages, making it difficult to identify which skills needed extra support.

In Year 11, "she didn't complete any homework from the exam booklet I created for her"—missing out on practice that could have boosted confidence before assessments.

One Year 5 learner struggled to set out multiplication working neatly, often omitting steps: as a tutor wrote, "needs to structure out work in a manner that ables others to understand progress."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student kept forgetting formulas between lessons and had trouble applying them under timed conditions during class quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Winston Hills tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously rushed through algebra questions is now taking time to structure her working, which has led to fewer errors and better marks in class quizzes.

A Year 9 boy, who used to hesitate when stuck, is starting to ask the tutor clarifying questions instead of giving up—a real shift towards independent problem-solving.

In a recent Year 4 session, a student who often avoided homework arrived with it completed and could explain her methods out loud before tackling new material.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Baulkham Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Winston Hills Public School.
