The most important thing I can do as a tutor is to make the students feel comfortable with their learning, meaning they are okay making mistakes and learning from them. I want students to understand how good it feels to grasp an understanding of a concept they initially found frustrating or difficult. I have experience working as a group tutor and…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to empower students to become independent learners by equipping them with essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective study habits. Beyond imparting subject knowledge, a tutor should instill confidence in students, helping them recognize their potential and overcome…

The best thing any Tutor can do is make a student like a particular subject which she/he used to previously dislike. This means that the Tutor has made a boring subject interesting to the students. And in this way, the student will remember what he/she learns for a lifetime and not just for the purpose of examinations. I am a very patient Tutor,…

PDHPE Tutor Mernda, VIC
A tutor is someone who can help to support and strengthen students' self-efficacy one-on-one. This is extremely important as classroom teachers have to manage multiple students in a classroom and cannot provide the same undivided attention as a tutor can. Tutors instil confidence in their students, assist them in unpacking and understanding areas…

Take on different roles, understand not to 'do' the question for the student but rather help them to understand what is happening. You need to be able to ensure that it's a fun experience and they still enjoy learning and not make it a chore and reward verbally when a question is understood. Being able to adapt and recognising that I need to take…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is build confidence by creating a safe, supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. A great tutor adapts their teaching to suit the student’s learning style, and helps breaks down topics into simpler steps, and helps the student develop problem-solving…

Inside WollertTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Jugnu worked on understanding High Court interpretation and statutory interpretation in legal studies, reviewing major parts of Unit 4 content.

A Year 11 student focused on the doctrine of precedent and practiced structuring answers for exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Garry explored decimal operations—conversion, ordering, rounding—and reviewed place value concepts using practical examples.

Recent Challenges

Not breaking down exam-style questions led to missed marks for a Year 12 student; the tutor noted: "Needs improvement with answering exam-style questions."

In Year 11, anxiety about Mechanics topics caused the focus to shift toward quickly finishing homework instead of building understanding—leaving concepts shaky for tests.

For a Year 8 English essay, skipped proofreading meant grammar and paragraphing issues slipped through.

In Year 5 maths, rushing mental calculations caused avoidable errors and gaps in times tables recall. The result was frustration during timed assessments when familiar mistakes reappeared.

Recent Achievements

A Wollert tutor noticed a Year 12 student who used to struggle with interpreting exam questions now actively chooses the quickest method to solve problems and clearly explains her reasoning.

In a recent Year 9 English session, Garry—who previously hesitated to structure his essays—successfully planned out paragraphs and integrated stronger arguments without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was once unsure about decimal place values independently wrote each number in the correct spot during practice, no reminders needed. At the end of that lesson, she confidently ordered several decimals on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mernda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wollert Primary School.
