The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment. This involves not only teaching the material but also building the student’s confidence in their own abilities. Know your stuff. Always. As simple as it might sound, really bringing your students a reliable foundation of knowledge on the subject is always crucial. It doesn't mean that you ALWAYS have to know your stuff though, we are human, and human can sometimes afford not to know it all. This is when I would go on, do my research, and make sure the next…

A tutor makes a student feel like even though the work is difficult and deadlines are looming, everything will be okay. The tutor acts as a mentor who helps students to improve their time management and study skills, as well as clarifying difficult points. This makes the student feel reassured about their progress through the course. I like to…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is be encouraging towards a student; often students get tutoring in a subject they are struggling in and are already mentally finding it difficult so it is critical a tutor positively encourages them and reminds them of their improvement. It is also very important a tutor listens to the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not just help with homework and assignments, but build a solid understanding of key concepts and other basics (especially in maths and science) so that the student is equipped with the knowledge and confidence to tackle a wide range of problems on their own. I assert that successful tutors are able to build strong relationships with their students as it personalizes learning. Another thing is to teach to the student's strengths and minimizes the students weaknesses. Every student and their way of learning is different, so, as a tutor, one should be flexible according to the needs of the perplexed…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is creating lesson plans and methods based around that student. Putting things in an easy way and guiding the students to think this way to solve the problem. This is very important, especially in maths and science subjects, the key for students to improve is by really understanding and the best way to check is to are they able to explain it back to you on another day, not to memorize by hard, maths also not…

Local Reviews

I was reluctant to get a tutor for my son, I did not care for robotic rote learning for tests. Our tutor through Ezymathtutoring teaches every topic at least 4 different ways and my son has developed a deep understanding of numeracy in a very short time. At the beginning of the year he was struggling to keep up, now he is ahead of his year level and thinks maths is fun. This is the best money we have ever spent, and we love our tutor, and the follow up support we get from the company. A great investment, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Inside WoodfordeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sarah worked through equations of lines and strategies for solving linear equations while preparing for an upcoming test.

Year 10 student Nick focused on binomial theorem applications and differential calculus, tackling practice questions involving expansion and basic differentiation.

For Year 11, Jessica reviewed integral calculus by working through problems that involved finding the area under a curve and then moved on to challenging trigonometry questions with the sine and cosine rules.

Recent Challenges

Several students in Years 11 and 12 showed a reluctance to attempt new or challenging questions during maths revision, often focusing only on familiar problem types; as one tutor noted, "Kieron needs to attempt more questions and post questions on our shared document when stuck."

In Year 9 science, Nick did not bring his online book for two sessions in a row, making it difficult to review key material together.

Jessica (Year 10) repeatedly left homework incomplete, which meant lesson time was spent re-explaining previously covered concepts instead of progressing further.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Woodforde recently noticed some encouraging changes across different year levels. For one high school student, Kieron, there's been a shift from leaving tough questions unfinished to actively attempting extra problems on his own during sessions—a real step up in independence compared to earlier weeks.

Olivia, also in high school, who used to get stuck and wait for answers, now brings specific questions from her revision and works through them methodically until she understands the process herself.

Meanwhile, Jessica (Year 7) showed a breakthrough by grasping ratios of sides after repeated struggles—she managed to finish all chapter questions without hesitation this time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rostrevor College.
