The most important thing is to help students develop a problem-solving thinking mode, rather than simply explaining a certain problem. After the problem-solving thinking mode is formed, they can not only efficiently solve the problems in learning but also actively deal with the problems in life. I am a very patient person. I can answer students'…

A tutor could guide the student through few steps that make complicated questions easier for the student to handle. A good tutor will figure out the way of thinking of the student and modify his teaching methods to help the student in the best possible way. I carefully explain concepts and will always try to simplify or reword them if the people I…

- a pillar of support: from my experience, the most important thing I appreciated from my tutors is supporting me when I was stressed about exams. I can understand how stressful being a student can be and want to help them just as my teachers helped me. - helping the student improve: it’s not just about getting the specific grade immediately,…

In my opinion, the most important thing for a tutor is patience, sometimes students might not understand something immediately, so tutors need to explain over and over again, this is testing tutors' patience. During this process, tutors also need to find out the best way of explaining things to students, because every student is different. I also…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to follow their pace while tutoring and allow them to express their ideas without judging and make correction later on. I have patience and good listening skills which allow me to follow the pace of the students. I also have experience being a student, therefore I can share more knowledge regarding other…

I believe that remaining patient, being very attentive, trying your best to understand the student, and modifying teaching approaches is the key to being an effective tutor. I believe that there is a lot of value in teaching students the art of metacognitive learning strategies such as using the syllabus as a roadmap for guiding and piecing…

From my experience the most important aspect of tutoring is giving the student the confidence to do what they think is right. So much of maths and life is doing what you think is right and then reflecting on the consequences. If you don't have the confidence to take the first step then you won't solve anything. The hardest aspect is giving…

I believe the most crucial thing that a tutor can do for their student is to encourage not only their understanding of a subject/topic but also their passion and enthusiasm for it. I believe that allowing a student to flourish in an environment tailored to them allows them to treat their studies less as a chore and more as a passion. This not…

A tutor must be able to commit to providing all the correct resources and help that a student needs. They should be patient with the student, understand learning patterns and be able to deliver information in simple terms. Tutors should also never judge but instead approach every problem in a friendly and helpful manner, as this will maintain an…

I think the most important thing a tutor need to do for a student is to acknowledge it is not only a job. Acknowledge that we are important influences for students. Thus, we need to keep studying to be better for students, learn how to educate, willing to use more time, communicate with experienced teachers, ask if we do not know know to deal with…

Local Reviews

I was reluctant to get a tutor for my son, I did not care for robotic rote learning for tests. Our tutor through Ezymathtutoring teaches every topic at least 4 different ways and my son has developed a deep understanding of numeracy in a very short time. At the beginning of the year he was struggling to keep up, now he is ahead of his year level and thinks maths is fun. This is the best money we have ever spent, and we love our tutor, and the follow up support we get from the company. A great investment, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Inside WoodfordeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Sarah worked through equations of lines and strategies for solving linear equations while preparing for an upcoming test.

Year 10 student Nick focused on binomial theorem applications and differential calculus, tackling practice questions involving expansion and basic differentiation.

For Year 11, Jessica reviewed integral calculus by working through problems that involved finding the area under a curve and then moved on to challenging trigonometry questions with the sine and cosine rules.

Recent Challenges

Several students in Years 11 and 12 showed a reluctance to attempt new or challenging questions during maths revision, often focusing only on familiar problem types; as one tutor noted, "Kieron needs to attempt more questions and post questions on our shared document when stuck."

In Year 9 science, Nick did not bring his online book for two sessions in a row, making it difficult to review key material together.

Jessica (Year 10) repeatedly left homework incomplete, which meant lesson time was spent re-explaining previously covered concepts instead of progressing further.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Woodforde recently noticed some encouraging changes across different year levels. For one high school student, Kieron, there's been a shift from leaving tough questions unfinished to actively attempting extra problems on his own during sessions—a real step up in independence compared to earlier weeks.

Olivia, also in high school, who used to get stuck and wait for answers, now brings specific questions from her revision and works through them methodically until she understands the process herself.

Meanwhile, Jessica (Year 7) showed a breakthrough by grasping ratios of sides after repeated struggles—she managed to finish all chapter questions without hesitation this time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rostrevor College.
