A tutor must not only teach children the subject, but also must prepare them to handle real world situations when it comes to applying what they have learnt in class. We as tutors must give them some practice of those types of situations. I am very friendly with kids, and I want them to be open and always let me know if they understand or not, and…

It is a tutor's goal to help their students effectively understand the topic and ensuring that these students know how to apply their knowledge in answering different questions. If a someone is able to accomplish this goal with their students, they have excelled as tutor. Since I have tutored my younger cousins, I have experience in explaining…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor is to listen to and understand their student's weaknesses and strengths. Often I find many people lack personalisation and simply follow the curriculum. I like to take a different approach where I really personalise my teaching depending on the student's capabilities and learning style. I also find…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to let them know that it is okay to make mistakes. People learn and understand things at a different pace and not everyone can learn from their first mistake. This is important because a student should feel comfortable in the surroundings they learn in without feeling…

Although it is of course important for a tutor to academically support each and every student, I think it is equally if not more important for a tutor to provide emotional support. A tutor must make sure they are empathetic and understanding towards any struggles their students are going through, and be willing to provide additional assistance…

We all learn differently, in different ways, and at different times. A student may be a visual, auditory or movement learner. Some are a combination of all three types of learning styles. It is my job as an educator to determine how each of my students learn best, and to teach them strategies that they can use to help them achieve their full…

A good tutor should be able to motivate the student and kindle the interest in the subject. Once the child starts liking the subject, grades, results etc become the norm and the student will be able to learn effortlessly. I have produced excellent results at GCE and IGCSE examinations. I have trained teachers to use whole brain teaching techniques…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are helping them truly understand concepts, building their confidence, and creating a supportive learning environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to make learning clear, practical, and confidence-building. First, a tutor should identify where the student is struggling and address those gaps with simple, step-by-step explanations and plenty of practice. It is also important to focus on exam techniques showing students how to…

The most important thing is to not only be educational support for the student but also moral support as they may have stress from their parents to do well in school or not get the praise they deserve, which they can get through tutoring. I also believe a good tutor knows in depth what they teach, meaning I can convey my experience and knowledge…

I believe, as a tutor it is our duty to support the students and encourage them through their learning journey. Complimenting a work well done and correcting the mistakes are such examples. Although it may not seem significant it is quite the opposite as it builds the self esteem of a student and gives them confidence to learn the subject. A tutor…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, outside of teaching concepts, is to support the student to arrive at the conclusion/answer themselves rather than leading them to it. A tutor must always support and encourage students to think for themselves. I always listen to my students and encourage them to think out loud. This way I can…

The biggest thing about being a tutor is to give confidence to students. When being a student, I have felt insecure and dumb many times while solving questions and my tutors have uplifted my confidence so much to get the scores I got in Year 12. More than that, they made me feel good about myself which was the primary important thing. One of my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is definitely making them feel comfortable learning and learn in a fun and rewarding way. Make the subject interesting as much as possible so that the students actually understand and love what they are studying, instead of just memorizing the syllabus to pass exams. Inside Wyndham ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lachlan worked on analysing the structure and poetic devices in "Bushfires, rushing rivers of hell" and then composed his own free-verse poem using an emotion as inspiration.

In Year 9, Aiden practiced solving linear equations and reviewed key concepts from recent algebra homework to strengthen foundational skills.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Olivia focused on identifying properties of 2D shapes such as corners and sides, and practiced counting patterns by going backwards in the hundreds for number fluency.

Recent Challenges

Several students in Years 7–12 showed process gaps impacting their progress.

One Year 9 student's algebra work lacked neatness and clarity, with "pen & paper needs work," making it hard to trace errors or revise efficiently.

In Year 10, another rarely dated notes or included teacher comments—this made revisiting class discussions and tracking progress over time difficult.

A Year 11 student skipped back-checking after questions in trigonometry, so sign errors lingered undetected; as one tutor observed, "must start Back Checking after each question."

Without these process habits, confusion persisted during revision and test preparation.

In primary levels, a Year 4 student's homework was often disorganized: answers weren't shown alongside working out, which made error correction challenging and feedback less effective.

Meanwhile, a younger learner hesitated to write ideas down if unsure—a moment of silence rather than risking visible mistakes—so practice opportunities slipped by unnoticed.

Recent Achievements

A Wyndham Vale tutor recently noticed Aiden's improvement in high school maths: after struggling with area and perimeter, he now solves these problems more accurately and identifies where he needs extra help, showing real self-awareness.

In another session, Lachlan actively asks follow-up questions during geometry lessons and even corrects his own misconceptions as they arise.

For a younger learner, Olivia now confidently works through the process out loud and completes her homework independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Manor Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Christway College - Wyndham.
