I had a really good tutor through year 11 and 12, helping me understand how important it is to make the students feel confident in themselves. I think the best way to do this is by creating a good relationship with them by providing a safe space to ask questions, focusing on what the students need and tutoring them in a way that helps each student…

- Bring awareness to the students' abilities. Many students, especially struggling ones, don't know how capable they really are. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is empower a student to take control of their own learning. I believe that all students can learn. It's just a matter of how. I like collaborating with students and parents…

Work with the student to initially build understanding of a concept. However, also allowing the student to gain confidence in understanding the concept independently. I think I come from a place very similar to people in need of tutors. I have never been one to learn something right away and know that some concepts need to be explained in a…

I consider helping a student improve their grades is the most important thing a tutor could do for a student. That or helping a student gain a better understanding about the subject they are being tutored on. Understanding how the child learns is the single most important thing because you can't teach a child with autism the same as another child without, they both learn in completely different ways, personally I found it easier as a auditory/kinesthetic learner, meaning being taught and shown at the same time, whereas some thrive off just being taught…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel like they are being spoken with, not spoken to. They need this so they can feel included in the discussion of learning, and not like they are being belittled for not knowing as much. Inside SingletonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ella worked through probability using Venn diagrams and two-way tables to strengthen her understanding of chance events.

For Year 9, James focused on algebraic manipulation and also reviewed graphing techniques to support upcoming assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Priya tackled trigonometric identities with revision, using unit circle diagrams to reinforce key concepts for her next test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 trigonometry, one student needed reminders to focus on the different trig identities and use traditional algebra, as "simplification steps were sometimes skipped."

In Year 12, there was a pattern of relying on familiar question types when revising for calculus tests—unfamiliar problems received less attention, leading to hesitation under test conditions.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student's written work in fractions showed inconsistent layout, which made it harder to spot calculation errors during review.

When tackling worded percentage questions in Year 8, rushing led to misreading what was actually being asked, resulting in incomplete answers and lost marks.

Recent Achievements

One Singleton tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously struggled with trig equations now independently solving sine and cosine problems using the unit circle—a shift from hesitancy to tackling new question types without prompting.

In a recent session, a Year 8 student, who often mixed up metric conversions, confidently handled length conversions between units and checked her answers aloud before moving on.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 showed initiative by annotating his own stem-and-leaf plots after weeks of needing reminders for each step.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lakelands Library and Community Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Singleton Primary School.
