Teaching correct thing is really important. A teacher should be inspiring role model. For any tutor, it is important that they set correct example in front of the student, so that along with the regular studies, they can become a responsible person. I am specialized in entry exams preparations. My teaching style is unique. I build a strong…

It can be overwhelming to feel confused or left behind in school which can eventually affect your self-confidence. Tutoring gives students a safe space to learn at their own pace without feeling judged or incapable. My greatest strength as a tutor would be my patience and ability to simplify complex concepts in ways students can relate to. I can…

To make the experience as enjoyable and seamless as possible. Learning in a school setting can be quite arduous and stressful for some due to the lack of individual attention and just sheer workload. I’ll make the learning experience smooth and positive, as this creates a positive-feedback loop which will aid the student look more into the…

Every student is special and expecting same response from every student is really not good . The velocity with which the child,s brain works is really different from kid to kid so the explanation from a tutor side has to be made again and again without thinking of his time till a sense of satisfaction is achieved from every student As a tutor, i…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help faciliate and devolop an independant learning process. By this I mean helping the student to learn, by not just giving them the answer but by helping them to reach the answer on their own. This way they will be able to do similar probelms in future, without assistance, and…

A tutor has to enable the student. Teaching them specific knowledge only goes so far. A tutor needs to give a student confidence that they can overcome their academic obstacles. Teach a student how to obtain resources in order to learn in their own time too. A tutor should be someone that the student can lean back on, if they have trouble finding…

I think a good tutor will be supportive of the student no matter what level they are at. If they get something wrong, always support them to discover the correct answer in a way that will help them learn. Rather than tell them how to do something exactly, help them learn how they can discover the solutions themselves, as someone wont always be…

To understand a student, the way they learn, behave, their interests, everything about the student can really help in the teaching style for them. I consider encouragement, feedback and trust to be an important part of tutoring. The teacher should support the learner to become more confident in their own academic capabilities, giving them timely and accurate feedback. Also, it is just as important to build positive relationships with your students so they can come to you with their problems…

The most important thing a tutor should do for their students is to encourage them to not give up, typically younger student don't like doing things that push them academically so giving a small push can go a long way. I understand that a tutor can significantly reduce the burden of academic chores off the shoulders of a student and hence support the efforts towards more productive activities. The success factor, to a large extend, depends upon the individual effort and determination of the student. However, tutor can ensure that the student's effort is used…

Inspire the student to enjoy learning. Try to impart an understanding of the concept, not just how to do some things from memory, this will enable them to work out any question that is thrown at them. A tutor should ensure that a student does not simply memorize material, but that they understand it. Understanding is not enough, however, and so I believe tutors should actively focus on allowing students to apply concepts that they have learned to consolidate their understanding and comprehension of the source material. It is important for…

Inside Airport WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised solving linear equations involving brackets and multiple x terms, and practiced rearranging equations into y = mx + c for graphing.

In Year 10, Daniel focused on statistics by identifying mean, median, mode, outliers and constructing boxplots using a CAS calculator with real data sets.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Annabelle worked on multiplication tables and applied spelling strategies during reading aloud to strengthen both numeracy and literacy skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, one student struggled with choosing the correct reference frame for projectile motion and occasionally copied calculator answers incorrectly, particularly decimals—"needs to practice being more careful when transcribing answers from the calculator to the paper."

In Year 10 Maths, skipping written steps in algebra meant sign errors went unnoticed until much later.

For a Year 7 student, homework was left incomplete after an illness; this break disrupted his recall of area and perimeter rules during revision.

In primary years, over-reliance on calculators or "rushing" through reading led to misread words or missed grammar cues, leaving comprehension gaps mid-story.

Recent Achievements

One Airport West tutor noticed that a Year 11 student who used to skip steps when simplifying surds is now carefully writing out each stage, which helps him avoid confusion and stay organised through multi-step problems.

In Year 10, another student who often hesitated to check calculator work has started using her intuition to spot errors and will now double-check large calculations independently instead of waiting for guidance.

Meanwhile, in primary school, Annabelle began applying fractions from her lesson to everyday life—before the session ended, she was already describing her lunch in fractions and explaining her thinking unprompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon Keilor College-Niddrie Campus.
