In my opinion successful tutors build strong, personal relationships with their students. Also tutors listen and communicate early and often with parents and teachers. I am the type pf person who is willing to put as much as effort as possible to get the student satisfactory grades. I am also kind and doesn't get furstrated when…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be absolutely encouraging in whatever the student wants to achieve in anything they are learning. It's important because that strongly affects the students drive and perseverance in mastering a certain subject. A tutor can be inspiring to the student with the right and excited attitude I believe that i…

Effective communication with the student is one of the most important things a tutor can do. A tutor can improve the learning environment for the student by his/her communication skills so the student feels comfortable enough to ask questions and participate in the class. The most important thing is to gain a core understanding of the topic, and not just a surface level rote learning of how to solve problems. It's also important to have an understanding of each student and to recognise when to push them and when they've hit a wall (mentally). I think my greatest strength is my approachability and flexibility. I do…

Make them enjoy studying more, and imbue them with better study practices. Many students suffer from math anxiety or procrastination issues which hamper the effort they already put in. I'm quite patient and very willing to continually sit on a topic or point with a student until they fully understand it - which often happens for topics that are…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster a deep understanding of the subject matter and to build the student's confidence in their own abilities. It's crucial to create a learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and explore different solutions. Personalizing lessons to…

I believe that it is paramount for a tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each student…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. A tutor should also be patient in order to make the student feel welcomed whenever they are in a predicament academically. Other than that, a tutor should be friendly so the students feel…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help the student develop interest for the subject. Once the student is throughly interested in the subject, he/she starts to explore on their own. After that the tutor just needs to guide the student in the correct path and occasionally help with difficult problems. However this is not an easy task.…

Being there and answering questions they ask at anytime whoch would be crucial. If a student puts effort into attending tutoring sessions then we should put the effort of helping them as much as we can. A tutor is not responsible for not passing the exam only, rather he needs to guide the student toward a better future for the student & a wellbeing for the society. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence. When students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, they're much more willing to learn. A great tutor also adapts their teaching style to each student and helps them develop problem-solving skills, rather than just memorising answers. Good…

One of the most damaging things one can do as a tutor is establish a blind hierarchy with their student. A tutor does not impart facts and knowledge, he or she attempts to come, along with the student, to a mutual understanding of a concept and I find that much more constructive if you approach this from a peer perspective rather than an…

The most vital thing a tutor can do is remain calm throughout and handle the situation calmly because at the end of the day we are all humans, if they don't understand something, it's our duty to come up with new ideas to help them. Inside Airport WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised solving linear equations involving brackets and multiple x terms, and practiced rearranging equations into y = mx + c for graphing.

In Year 10, Daniel focused on statistics by identifying mean, median, mode, outliers and constructing boxplots using a CAS calculator with real data sets.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Annabelle worked on multiplication tables and applied spelling strategies during reading aloud to strengthen both numeracy and literacy skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, one student struggled with choosing the correct reference frame for projectile motion and occasionally copied calculator answers incorrectly, particularly decimals—"needs to practice being more careful when transcribing answers from the calculator to the paper."

In Year 10 Maths, skipping written steps in algebra meant sign errors went unnoticed until much later.

For a Year 7 student, homework was left incomplete after an illness; this break disrupted his recall of area and perimeter rules during revision.

In primary years, over-reliance on calculators or "rushing" through reading led to misread words or missed grammar cues, leaving comprehension gaps mid-story.

Recent Achievements

One Airport West tutor noticed that a Year 11 student who used to skip steps when simplifying surds is now carefully writing out each stage, which helps him avoid confusion and stay organised through multi-step problems.

In Year 10, another student who often hesitated to check calculator work has started using her intuition to spot errors and will now double-check large calculations independently instead of waiting for guidance.

Meanwhile, in primary school, Annabelle began applying fractions from her lesson to everyday life—before the session ended, she was already describing her lunch in fractions and explaining her thinking unprompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon Keilor College-Niddrie Campus.
