By my little experience, i think that tutoring is not only directing the children to a specific point but opening their mind to a broader level by keeping into mind the child's interests. Listening to the child, helping them to use their imagination freely and cope-up with difficult questions easily. Also, students can ask me questions freely if…

In the role of a tutor, it's crucial to maintain a calm and composed demeanor, regardless of the complexity of the situation. Instead of getting agitated or raising my voice, I believe in using peaceful and constructive communication to assist students through their challenges. Providing encouragement and empathy is far more effective in helping…

The best thing is to guide a student in a direction which is best according his or her capabilities. He/she should be motivated to follow the path in which he /she has upper hand or better grasping power. Tutoring is not just about teaching ......It decides the future of next generations. So a tutor acts as a blueprint for a student's carrer.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to never make the student feel quote on quote dump for not knowing a concept none of us were put on this earth knowing everything so being frustrated with a student over something "they should have already known" seems useless to me what if instead you note this down and help them find a…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence. It’s not just about improving grades, but helping them believe they’re capable. A good tutor should also create a safe space for questions, provide encouragement, and teach study skills that students can use independently in the future. I think my main…

Tutor can guide the student effectively. Tutoring doesn’t mean delivering lecture and completing the curriculum. It is responsible for holistic development of the pupils. Most important a teacher can do is to check the students individual growth and planning for the same. I have more than 4 years of teaching experience. I have taught formally as…

I believe it’s important to empathise with students rather then being sympathetic. Sympathy comes with one feeling a sense of emotion for sometime. Whereas, when in comes to tutoring, we need to empathise with students as it’ll allow us to position ourselves in their circumstances. Therefore, will give as a vision of a reality closer to what a…

The most important things a tutor can do is to engage, motivate and inspire students to learn. Tutors have a great influence on a student's mind as well. For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is to help students believe in themselves. The most important thing a tutor can do is to build up a student's self belief so they can continue improving and reach their goals, whether they be academic or not. I think besides helping a student with his/her academics, a tutor can act as a role model for him/her or someone he/she can look up to. A tutor can not only provide academic assistance but also can broadens a student's outlook in many ways by sharing with him/her many stories, news and also giving an idea about manners and ethics as well. The most…

Inside AlbanvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ashan focused on calculating unknown angles using rules for straight lines and circles, then planned a TEEL paragraph and introduction for an essay on school uniforms.

Another Year 7 student reviewed complementary and supplementary angles as well as identifying corresponding, alternate, co-interior, and vertically opposite angles, while also practicing debate rebuttals and public speaking.

For Year 10, Steph worked through enzyme function in biology using test questions to prepare for her upcoming SAC, alongside revision of data analysis techniques such as linear regression and median smoothing.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was observed frequently solving maths problems in his head—especially with algebra and angles—leading to confusion when several steps were needed. As a tutor wrote, "he likes to do calculations in his head, but he's not ready for that yet." This habit meant errors weren't easily spotted or fixed.

In English, he generated strong ideas for persuasive writing but struggled to organize them logically, sometimes "jumping" between points without smooth transitions.

On a senior level, another student hesitated to let the tutor check their work during fractions tasks; this avoidance blocked helpful feedback and slowed improvement.

Recent Achievements

One Albanvale tutor recently noticed a real shift in a Year 7 student's approach to angle problems: after repeatedly mixing up how to label angles, he took on new strategies and now draws and explains them accurately without prompting.

In high school maths, another student who previously glossed over "silly mistakes" began pausing to spot errors himself—he not only corrected his own work but could clearly explain where he went wrong.

Meanwhile, during an English session with a younger learner, the student moved from simply stating opinions to independently structuring a full argument paragraph for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Deer Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albanvale Primary School.
