The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspire and motivate. While these seem like simple elements, in successfully doing so, the tutor has essentially altered the learning experiences for the student from that moment onwards. The student is then able to develop their confidence in their subjects, push to achieve their goals,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is enjoy helping the student. If they don't enjoy tutoring I feel like they lack motivation and it feels like they don't want to be there. This makes the student not want to achieve well in there studies. I find that I am very strong in communication skills. I am able to explain complex concepts in…

They can build more personal teaching relationships with their students and therefore should aim to: - Truly personalise the learning experience - Use connections to the student's interests - Teach to the student's strength and have the student set the pace - Work on and improve the student's…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clarity and build confidence. It is crucial to break down complex ideas into manageable sections and go through these thoroughly. A tutor should also create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. Beyond…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show them patience and kindness. Learning new things takes time, and it's important to show your students that you are willing to spend that time with them and work with them to achieve their goals no matter how long it takes. I am patient, kind, honest, and extremely reliable. I also…

I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then…

I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. I am a young person, so I am able to understand a child in many situations. I am aware of mental health and the…

Instil confidence, teach problem solving and critical thinking that can be applied across all academic areas, and encourage resilience when students are struggling, reiterating that it is okay to not understand straight away and that persisting is the most important thing. In my opinion, one of the most important things a tutor can do is to make it clear to a student that they are capable and believe in their abilities as a student. This establishes trust and goes a long way in terms of fixing problems of difficulties in any subject area. It will also build a student's confidence in themself all while knowing there…

Being a teacher, it's his/her duty to make the student understand any concept accurately with an ease and with great patience. I am a very patient person and work with full…

Inside AlbionTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Amber practised converting between kilograms, grams, and other units, along with long division and understanding place value.

In Year 10, Liam focused on surface area problems from Chapter 6D and E and also reviewed key trigonometry applications for non-right-angled triangles using exam prep questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel worked through anti-differentiation and differentiation concepts for his assignment, as well as tackled graphing sinusoidal functions like cosine and sine from Chapter 5.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on piece-wise functions needed extra practice breaking down complex, multi-step problems; as a tutor noted, "figuring out areas of tricky shapes required careful reading to avoid missing key details."

In Year 9, there was confusion converting units and identifying which formula applied in surface area tasks, sometimes leading to skipped sides or misapplied calculations.

For a Year 4 student, not knowing times tables made it difficult to attempt multiplication questions—"she couldn't do much multiplication practice since she doesn't know the times tables of any numbers yet," wrote one tutor. This slowed progress through longer division and multi-step problems.

Recent Achievements

One Albion tutor noted a high school student who, after weeks of confusion with trigonometric functions, independently calculated B and C values for sine and cosine graphs—a real shift from needing step-by-step prompts.

Another secondary student, previously hesitant to tackle complex worded problems, started breaking down multi-step surface area questions on her own and explained her reasoning aloud without waiting for reassurance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who would often guess at answers now double-checks his working when converting decimals to fractions and consistently arranges numbers in order before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret's Anglican Girls School.
