If a student is confident in their ability to learn and comprehend information, they feel that they have options and their anxiety toward their educational career completely changes. I am compassionate and patient. I love simplifying information for students and giving them a higher confidence both in themselves and their ability to…

The most important role of a tutor is to make sure students truly understand concepts in a way that allows them to apply them in practice. Beyond that, it’s about giving them the right amount of guidance so they can eventually solve problems independently. I think effective tutoring strikes a balance between support and encouraging self…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be patient with them and help them with everything they need help with, working with them consistently even when the student is having trouble understanding. My best strength as a tutor would be my ability to easily communicate high level concepts (mostly math concepts) in a way that is…

To interact more with the student and make sure they are understanding things better and/or are facing any difficulties, but also appreciate them on their improvements and encourage to do better and never be satisfied with being average. In the teaching phase, student-focused teaching would be my method of teaching, which is to discover what the students need instead of dumping knowledge, whilst showing respect and understanding. When a student raises concerns about a question, which I assume in maths and sciences usually composites of concepts from multiple areas of study, I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to work the questions out and guide them rather than just telling them the answers. By actually teaching instead of telling, they are more likely to enjoy the subject and do well on exams and future assignments. The end goal of tutoring is for the student to be capable of…

I think the main role of a tutor is encouraging confidence in their students. I have found that most of the time my students know the answer, they're just too afraid to say it. Or they may be on the right track and need a little guidance to fully understand a concept, making problem solving skills another thing that I try to pass on to my…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. I have infinite patience, I can adjust my communication style, and I when faced with something unfamiliar I have…

I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspiring them to keep learning, by giving them "aha" moments when they understand something new. Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. A tutor is one of the best person who can analyse this and make learning a creative activity instead…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them learn in a way they understand. Not everybody learns the same, so it's important that a tutor can help the student no matter what their learning style is. It's also important that a tutor and the student can get along as well, it's easier to listen to a person you like!…

A tutor must give a student confidence and help them to not be overwhelmed by new topics. Once a student believes they can learn something, it is much easier to actually learn it. The most important things a tutor can do is to understand how their student learns, be knowledgeable on the subject, and above all try. I can assist…

I think always understanding what the student needs from us is most important rather than we planning out everything. A tutor should be patient and explain all in detail when a student asks us. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is relate to their learning. Local Reviews

We joined this month as my teenage daughter needed some confidence building as trying in Maths but needs support with specfic concepts. My daughter has been matched with a fabulous and very reliable university student. Since my first query Ezy Maths has been fantastic at communicating and listening as we feel our feedback is valued. As we always asked and given opportunities to voice our thoughts and general progress in regard to the tutoring process. Totally happy and can only say Ezy Maths makes the tutoring process Ezy :) regards Carmen

Inside AlderleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Angel focused on graph theory concepts, including adjacency matrices, planar graphs with Euler's formula, and explored properties of Eulerian and Hamiltonian graphs.

Year 11 student Melina worked on her assignment by using calculus to ensure two functions connect smoothly at a point—matching values and derivatives—and practiced finding areas under curves with the trapezoidal rule.

For Year 7, Thomas reviewed fractions (comparing and simplifying), tackled improper to mixed conversions, and completed homework on multiplication and division.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Specialist Maths, one student hesitated to start complex problems without support—especially when constructing Activity Networks from Precedence tables—which slowed progress and increased frustration. "He needed a prompt to get going," a tutor noted.

In Year 8, another student often left working out unwritten during algebra tasks, making it harder to identify where errors crept in and undermining feedback use.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, messy diagrams and cramped writing made reviewing vowel combinations difficult.

Distractions in senior sessions sometimes meant missed steps or unfinished answers just as exam prep began to ramp up.

Recent Achievements

One Alderley tutor noticed a high school student who used to hesitate when tackling assignments now sets realistic goals for herself and works steadily towards them, often asking questions whenever she's unsure—something she avoided in the past.

Another high schooler, after struggling with revision outside lessons, recently took initiative by identifying a topic he found difficult and brought it up unprompted for extra help.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously guessed at answers now sounds out words carefully before spelling them and remembers to apply rules from previous sessions. Last week, she wrote an entire paragraph remembering punctuation without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grange Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newmarket State School.
