Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure that with every tutoring session, there is value and purpose. Whether that is learning something new, revising an important topic, helping with homework, or asking a question, the tutor must ensure that the student is getting quality help to ensure success for exams. i think the best thing a tutor can do in order to properly teach a student is for the tutor to try and put their level of thinking at the same level as the student in order to communicate effective information that is more likely to be retained by the student. i think my biggest strength is adapting to each students needs and way of learning. i…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence in their own ability. It's not just about getting the right answer, but helping them understand how to approach problems and trust their thinking. When students feel supported and capable, they’re much more willing to engage and improve. I think one of my main…

I believe that encouraging the creation of ideas and allowing students to assemble their own ideas and thoughts is a good way to promote creativity. As tutoring gives a more face to face approach, a tutor can do more than a teacher on some occasions for a student as they give more individual focus on each student's weakness and strengths. The most important thing I can do for a student is giving them the time, knowledge and hands-on approach others who cannot do that for them. Tutoring can…

In my opinion the most important things a tutor can offer a student is confidence and guidance. This is because as a tutor, building a student's confidence can directly impact their attitude towards learning and how well they can achieve the marks they are aiming for. Similarly, by giving guidance to a student, not only prompts them into learning…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to believe in them and show encouragement. Inside AllawahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Sienna practised long division with large numbers and interpreting remainders, then revised fraction skills by adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators and simplifying answers.

Year 5 student Lucas focused on perimeter and area calculations for triangles, using diagrams to distinguish triangle types, and also solved problems involving surface area and volume.

For Year 7, Sarah worked through algebraic expressions from worded problems and tackled substitution tasks, along with revising order of operations in multi-step questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often left units off her answers in area and volume questions, which led to confusion when checking solutions—she needs to remember to write the correct units, one tutor observed.

In Year 11 maths, a tendency emerged to rely heavily on formula sheets for conversions rather than attempting problems independently, limiting retention.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner's working was frequently messy and numbers unclear; this caused errors when distinguishing between similar digits like 4 and 9.

For one senior student, not revisiting or responding to tutor feedback meant repeated mistakes in algebraic manipulation across sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Allawah tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to rely heavily on hints now works through order of operations problems entirely on her own, even asking "what if" questions to deepen her understanding.

A high schooler recently showed a real shift in approach: after weeks of forgetting to check units in measurement conversions, she now automatically double-checks her answers for correct units and rounding, especially with perimeter and area.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often guessed at fraction comparisons began reading worded problems aloud before answering—helping her correctly identify equivalent fractions without needing visual aids.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like St George Christian School.
