The most important thing that a tutor can do is to inspire a sense of lifelong learning for the subject that is being tutored. My major strength is my appreciation of the subjects I tutor. Along with that, I always prepare myself with material, supplementary exercises and further reading before class. As a student engineer, I am also very adept…

I believe that the best thing a tutor can do is to help students be more self-sufficient in their future learning. It is important for students to develop skills transferrable across topics and subjects in the process of learning and revising new concepts. My strength as a tutor is my ability to accomodate to students' needs. I am always willing…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, make them feel comfortable and create a positive environment. In my childhood, I was taught "a good teacher is someone who makes a student fall in love with the subject" and the idea has always been in me. I try to follow that ideology by making leaning…

A tutor can boost a child’s confidence when he/ she understands the concept and solves the sums with a proper understanding. Setting small goals to complete big dreams. Keeping pace with school speed. Taking stress out of difficult subjects. I have done B.Sc. In statistics and B.Ed. With Maths and English as specials. Both the degrees with high…

A tutor provides a supportive environment for their students. This is most true for the students who struggle the most, who may need more help than their peers who don't find the topic as difficult. As far as my understanding, as a tutor, he/she always needs to motivate their students to think more widely and creatively. It is true, initially, they will fail several times. Allowing them to do it, will build their confidence for their future, which will be eventually worth it for their life. As a tutor, I am always friendly, patiently try to…

So far I have found several factors that make for good tutors. Firstly building a strong and personal relationship with the student is very important as the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor can add essential ingredients for students to learn and grow. Secondly, communication and collaboration with the student,…

I think that as a tutor, being able to understand the perspective of the student is crucial in educating them. Tutoring is a student-centred occupation and one should be able to assess students' knowledge in real time in order to develop effective teaching solutions. Another important tutoring technique is to be prepared for sessions. Whether it…

From my experience, the most important thing/skill as a tutor is to understand what students are not understanding. I believe that the most effective way to increase academic score/grade is to find the weakness/ topics that we do not quite get. Tutors should find those in students quickly and resolve it by teaching effectively. One of the biggest…

Students, in my opinion, are like clay that can be molded in any way. And if I have such a wonderful opportunity, I'll do everything in my power to make the most of it. Inside AnnerleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe practised converting fractions to percentages and explored how climate change impacts our environment, including ways to reduce waste.

In Year 10, Morgan focused on applying integration techniques to solve problems involving position, velocity, and acceleration, as well as analysing feedback for her maths PSMT assignment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex worked through the rules for differentiating trigonometric functions using the chain rule and product rule, then applied these methods to a range of practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly arrived without her school book or resources, leaving her easily confused about what she had or had not learnt in class, and unable to clarify concepts for assignments.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a lack of practice identifying oxidising and reducing agents meant that she needed more time to balance equations independently.

Messy written work and unstructured answers in Year 8 Maths led to confusion and avoidable mistakes; as noted, work formatting still needs a lot of improvement.

In Year 4, inconsistent focus during times tables revision resulted in forgotten basics after missed sessions, making it harder to regain confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Annerley tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student who now starts sessions by sharing exactly where she's confused, rather than waiting for hints—last month, she rarely spoke up.

In Year 12 maths, Morgan recently solved go-cart track equations on her own after the tutor modelled one example; before this, she'd needed step-by-step help for each section.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student has started sounding out tricky spelling words independently and checks unfamiliar meanings herself instead of guessing. At the end of her session, she read the next chapter out loud without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Annerley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Junction Park State School.
