The most important thing for the tutor is To provide confidence to the student in himself and show him the way to how he can solve the problem himself. Make him self reliant. To be able to show the practical relevance and their usage using simple and easy to remember tricks and examples from everyday life. Another of my key strengths is to…

A tutor can always support or help his/ her students, could take student's weakness in a positive way. A tutor can analyse the student's capabilities in a detailed manner which is very helpful to figure out the areas that need more focus and attention. One of my attribute is that i am good at getting to know the student, once i am familiar with…

Being able to teach a student enough material for them to be able to pass the class, that is what you are being paid to do. There are also many ineffible qualities that will set apart a good tutor from a great one. Such qualities include, understanding the student, being supportive of them and their emotions and ensuring the student is effectively…

I believe that developing the learning capability of the student is the best thing a tutor can do because a tutor is only going to be there for a short run however their learning ability is going to assist and stick with them forever. I always make the students aware of what kind of questions can be asked while allowing them to take their time and…

As a tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. I will try to become one of them though I'm still yet to gain formal experience of tutoring In addition,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them not just what to think, but how to think. Its about providing them with strategies to find their own answers. I always found I remembered and used formulas much more effectively when I understood the reasons behind them, and why they worked, and would like to help others come…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build the student's confidence and make them feel safe to ask questions without judgement. Beyond just teaching content, a tutor should help students develop problem-solving skills they can apply independently. It's also important to listen to each student, understand where they are…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

A tutor has the opportunity to encourage confidence in students. Not solely confidence that they can achieve highly, but confidence that they can give anything a go and learn and improve as they do. I believe that tutors must have a good attitude and genuinely enjoy the concepts and the subject. Without this, the student will most likely find the tutoring bland and boring, which would reduce their engagement and their overall performance and knowledge in the subject. Be patient, sometime students are having a hard time to understand some new confusing concepts in math or physics. It is important to explain the concept to students in a different way. During such a time, finding a new way to explain things in an easier way such students can learn is very important or students might give up on this point. In the…

A tutor should be patient and never say something is easy. They should always encourage and find ways to explain something step-by-step such that everything is explained and can be linked back to a central idea. I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe, encouraging space where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Other than imparting the lessons in school, I think being able to empathize with the students is key in effective teaching. I have the ability to relate with young kids well. Raising three…

Inside Ascot ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack focused on addition and subtraction sums, completing a practice test to reinforce mental calculation skills.

In Year 10, Emily worked through Pythagoras' theorem in geometry problems from her school workbook and explored applications of square roots for right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas reviewed acid-base reactions—including strong and weak acids—and practiced titration calculations with real-world examples, also discussing when to use different pH indicators.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Chemistry, one student was advised to revise more frequently, but outside-of-tutoring revision remained inconsistent—"there appears to be a lack of proactive seeking for information regardless of whether this was specified by the tutor or not." This resulted in gaps persisting between sessions, especially with equation balancing and bonding types.

A Year 11 Physics student delayed assignment drafts until close to deadlines; earlier completion would have allowed time for corrections.

In Year 7 Maths, calculator reliance was noted: "needs to learn calculation without using calculator," making it harder to develop fluency in mental arithmetic during practice sets.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ascot Park recently noticed some encouraging shifts among students.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Lu-Anne has moved from struggling to connect concepts to independently solving the final question of a complex equilibrium task—something she previously found daunting. She's now actively asking questions and explaining her reasoning during sessions, which is a big change from earlier lessons where she stayed quiet.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 Physics student who often rushed through problems began using diagrams to catch mistakes and now consistently spots errors as they occur.

In Year 5 Maths, one student started completing percentage problems with less prompting and explained his steps out loud for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Park Holme Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sports College South Australia - Edwardstown Oval.
