It’s not just about explaining the subject—it’s about helping them believe they can do it. A good tutor listens, encourages questions, and creates a space where the…

While improving grades is important, a great tutor should also teach students how to think critically, solve problems, and approach challenges with confidence. A tutor should be encouraging, patient, and genuinely invested in the…

A trait I consider to be very important as a tutor is being a good leader. They should also be assertive, trustworthy and mindful, which helps them offer guidance to other students. Lastly, they should keep an open…

It is most important for a tutor to engage with the student, so that they will be more inclined to be attentive and take the lessons seriously. It is also neccesary to make the neccesary preperations required for the student, e.g background research for foreign topics/ or remodled questions, to suit the student's needs and allow for efficient…

1. Fostering interest in the subject: If a tutor can kickstart an intrinsic motivator for the subject within the student, then the student can study the syllabus more thoroughly without it feeling boring. 2. The tutor chosen for my daughter connected with her at the first lesson and has made the idea of being tutored a positive experience. Which I very grateful for. I gave you 1 star less as I had difficulty in trying to pay for one of the prepaid packages.

Inside BeecroftTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Hamish worked on classifying numbers, as well as converting decimals to fractions and identifying multiples and factors.

For Year 10, Ella focused on measurement questions involving absolute and percentage error, then moved to linear graphs—finding gradients and y-intercepts using examples from her textbook.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Arish tackled challenging complex number problems alongside some proof questions set by his school teacher.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student was observed "cramming all homework into one sitting," resulting in rushed responses and gaps when tackling advanced topics like polynomials and logarithms. This left little room for meaningful revision or feedback use before lessons.

In Year 10, a student repeatedly relied on the formula sheet for trigonometry instead of memorising key relationships—"he kept checking the sheet each time rather than recalling the rule."

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner skipped reading full word problems, leading to frequent misinterpretation: answers often missed key details from later sentences. This tendency undermined their confidence when faced with multi-step questions in class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Beecroft recently noted a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with exam techniques now independently pinpoints her weaker areas and applies new strategies to tackle them.

In Year 8 maths, one student who often guessed when stuck has started pausing to ask clarifying questions instead, showing real initiative and less reliance on luck.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled with measuring lines using a ruler was initially apprehensive but, after some hands-on practice, now confidently measures and compares lengths without prompting. Last session, he completed all his line measurement tasks smoothly on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pennant Hills Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beecroft Public School.
