The most important things I can do for a student is provide guidance and communication to ensure they understand the concept and can apply it. I think it is important for a tutor to give students suggestions on how to remember concepts and real world applications. It's a tutor's job to know what learning type the student is best suit to, i.e…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is make their teaching environment comfortable. I believe students learn best if they are easy and able to talk and more importantly ask questions when they are unsure. Without this transparency I believe it’s very hard to teach and fully understand our students…

The power of being non-judgmental. A tutor must understand that every student has different learning capabilities and focus more on students that find it difficult to grasp concepts without belittling them. I believe I have two strengths as a tutor- 1. I do not follow the status quo/ set pattern of teaching. I like to mix things up so that my…

The important thing a tutor can do is to have patience and belief for their student. There will be times where the student will struggle even after a tutor shows or explains the problem. As the tutor, you have to show patience and not add extra pressure and stress for the student. Believing in the student will help them be more motivated and to…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage the individual to be more confident in their own abilities. This can be achieved by showing the student the most appropriate way to tackle the problem, and then rewarding them when they are able to complete the problem without any assistance. This should ultimately…

I believe encouragement, repetition and clarification of syllabus points are things that a tutor can focus on, in which will greatly improve the confidence and results of the student. I have just recently graduated high school and thus share common experiences with the current students, I believe this as an advantage as I can guide and mentor my…

A tutor should focus on fostering understanding, encouraging critical thinking, and building confidence. Tailoring the teaching approach to the student's learning style is crucial. Additionally, creating a positive, motivating environment and teaching effective study skills can significantly enhance the student's overall learning experience. I…

I feel a teacher plays a very important role in introducing any subject knowledge to a child. A child may be born intelligent but definitely a good teacher can take him on a path where he can start enjoying the journey of learning and be more confident. I can make the student not only competent, but also comfortable and confident in a certain topic. I understand how stressful hard subjects can be. I want to take away the feeling of fear when students enter a class they think they're not good in. Another thing is teaching a student to be an autodidact. I was fortunate enough to know this tactic…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is the ability for the student to develop a independent style of learning and facing adversities with a strategy in mind. This allows the student to not only develop academically but also fosters a lifestyle of learning that will help them transition into high education. I am clear,…

Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them understand a topic in a way that they understand. What I mean by this, is that not one student is the same as another. Some are visual learners and need practical explanations or materials to assist them to understand, others students may be auditory learners who require spoken…

Inside Bibra LakeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aiden worked on analysing poetic techniques such as alliteration and assonance within set class poems, and practised interpreting themes in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.

In Year 10, Tom focused on applying simultaneous equations to textbook problems and reviewed angles and bearings based on current classwork.

For Year 11, Harry tackled normal distributions and probability calculations using assignment questions, along with revising core concepts from recent assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 English, a student struggled to plan and complete body paragraphs ahead of assessment deadlines—one note read, "should've finished at least one of the body paragraphs as the assessment is due in only a few days."

In Year 8 Maths, another repeatedly avoided writing out working on paper, relying instead on mental calculation; this made it hard to spot where errors crept in.

Organization emerged as a challenge for a Year 11 student who was unaware of upcoming test dates and lost key notes needed for revision.

Missed planning steps or incomplete preparation often left them feeling behind during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Bibra Lake tutor noticed that a Year 11 student, Harry, has shifted from just plugging numbers into his calculator to wanting to understand the "why" behind each maths process—he now checks over his answers and identifies errors himself.

In English, Aiden (Year 9) has moved beyond surface-level reading; he's started drawing creative inferences from texts and can now break down tricky literary techniques on the spot—last week he wrote an original metaphor for a messy park without prompting.

Meanwhile, Tom (Year 6), who used to rush through problems, is pausing to talk out loud about questions and writing out his thought process as he solves them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Coolbellup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bibra Lake Primary School.
