I believe a tutor's role is to guide, facilitate and provide feedback on the student's own work. It is essential that the student independently develops the skills necessary to become competent. A tutor's role in this process is to encourage the student to explore their own knowledge, and provide tips to consolidate their understanding, and make…

I believe it is most important to build a student's confidence. Once they believe they can achieve things on their own, and develop an interest in the subject, higher grades will follow. My strength is patience and I believe my weakness would be understanding school curriculums, however I am a fast learner and know I can adapt…

To be an effective tutor, it is essential to focus on three critical aspects. Firstly, a tutor should be able to create a personalized learning experience that caters to the unique needs and learning style of each student. Secondly, building a strong rapport with the student is essential in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment,…

As previously mentioned, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen. If you do not listen to the students expectations and responsiveness to the material then the sessions will not be productive, and the student will not improve. My strengths are that I am an incredibly patient tutor, as well as a good listener.…

Give them the confidence they need to stay motivated to acheive their Goals. Whether it be merely passing a class or excelling wih 99%, any improvement needs to be congratulated. Be patient, if the student is not understanding your explanation, obviously a different approach is needed. Do not lecture. This the students are already receiving in…

I believe that tutors must be good analyzers if they want to succeed. I mean that they have to examine the way students study and practice and even think. After a good observation, they can provide students with the tools with which students can improve their weaknesses. This can be different form one student to another one. Besides, Encouraging…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not merely give additional lessons, but connect with them to gauge their individual skills and aid in further establishing them. Academic prowess is highly regarded, and to be able to watch a student grow to achieve such a goal would be very fulfilling. In my opinion, recognising…

The most important thing a Tutor can do for a student is help them to confidently unlock the door to their own learning potential. Once a person understands their own mind, they can take control of their own learning and come across their own methods of…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to provide constructive but fair feedback to their students, while also providing practical advice and support to them, so they can improve in areas where they were originally struggling. A tutor has to be able to accomodate to each students need individually. It's important to understand the needs and habits of each student as each person learns uniquely. This, in turn, provides them with the best possible learning experience which maximises potential and results. - Good Communicator - Vast Knowledge of subjects - Can make…

I believe that student's can generally pick up on whether a tutor is invested in them quite quickly. I am very good at picking up on what…

To nurture and help them grow as an individual not as a student. To encourage them even when they fail and to help them love the subject of interest instead of seeing it as a daunting task that they hate. I understand the requirements and needs to excel. Inside BictonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Xavier focused on adding and subtracting larger numbers, practising three-digit addition and takeaways to build confidence with bigger values.

In Year 7, Alice revised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as tackling measurement conversions such as millimetres to kilometres using real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Max worked through algebraic equations involving variables alongside adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions that include variables.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student struggled to set out addition and subtraction clearly, often omitting working for multi-step problems—she sometimes is too quick to give an answer or gets confused about what number is used for what part of solving the question.

In Year 8, a student's decimals work was held back by difficulty lining up columns when adding or subtracting, making errors harder to spot.

For a senior student (Year 10), test revision focused only on familiar fraction types; less time went into practicing new question formats.

When homework was missed without notice in Years 7 and 9, gaps in skill development persisted into following lessons.

Recent Achievements

A Bicton tutor noticed a big shift in one high school student, Poppy, who previously hesitated with algebra but now rearranges equations on her own and is even tackling multiplication with brackets—something she used to avoid.

Another secondary student, Chloe, moved from needing hints to solve improper-to-mixed fraction questions to working through most of them confidently and making only minor mistakes.

With a younger learner, Xavier, sessions have focused on building independence; he now counts digits without being prompted and tries new problems solo instead of waiting for help. Last week, he finished all his addition exercises unassisted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as AH Bracks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bicton Primary School.
