Inside BlackstoneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aiden practised multiplication tables and word problems, focusing on strategies for long division and regrouping in subtraction.

In Year 8, Olivia worked through trigonometry word problems using calculators to find sine, cosine, and tangent values, as well as applying the Pythagorean theorem to right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam revised probability concepts by drawing Venn diagrams and solving two-way table exercises, also comparing data sets with range and interquartile range calculations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, a student struggled to plan time during statistics revision—"we were not able to do statistics revision due to lack of time"—which left some probability work incomplete and at risk of being forgotten.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 trigonometry, feedback from earlier mistakes was not always applied, leading to repeated errors in practice questions.

A Year 4 student showed hesitation writing out long division steps; perfectionism made her reluctant to show working unless she was sure it was correct.

In English (Year 6), attention drifted during tests, so less material was covered than intended.

Recent Achievements

One Blackstone tutor noticed a big shift with Connor, a high school student who previously hesitated to attempt challenging trigonometry word problems but now solves them independently and accurately—even finishing all his practice questions except one.

Another high school win: Max, after initially struggling to get started on angle problems in polygons, was able to work through them on his own following some targeted guidance.

In primary years, Isla showed new initiative by explaining what she wanted to focus on and then applying her own strategies from past lessons when tackling tough word problems—something she used to avoid.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ipswich Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
