One of the most important things that a tutor can do for their students is create a safe learning environment for them where they are not judged and can openly ask questions as I believe this will truly allow them to gain deep understanding in the content they are learning which is what I think is crucial in any learning aspect as understanding is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen. A tutor's job is not to just teach the student, but to bring out the best of the student and a tutor cannot do that unless they listen to the student. A good tutor is not a tutor that had achieved exceedingly well themselves, although that is a part of it- it's about their ability…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making sure they have enough confidence and belief in themselves to replicate the work you do together, by themselves. This in the end is the most beneficial skill when it comes to school, because self doubt holds back so many students. Being able to break down concepts into bite…

I think a tutor’s responsibility is to ensure a foundational level of understanding is reached and giving the student a space to ask questions they may not in class. I am able to think about things in different ways and recognise when something isn’t working for someone. I don’t over complicate things. I believe that explaining difficult…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build confidence. Sometime, all it takes is confidence for a student who is unsure about their abilities to really flourish. I'd say my strengths lie in being patient. Given I have recently graduated from highschool, it means I have a better understanding of what students are…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is help students believe in themselves. The most important thing a tutor can do would be to maintain a strict regimen on what is expected in a student. Students that are set in the easy and slow pace that their classroom teachers assert themselves will fall behind easily. It is vital that a tutor recognise and go the extra mile to attain new resources and schedules for their student to…

Inside BoroniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Olivia worked through fractions and percentages using real-world examples, then moved on to practising long multiplication and division for improved accuracy.

Year 9 student Liam focused on mastering linear graphing techniques alongside trigonometry basics like SOH CAH TOA, including some bearings problems.

For Year 12, Emily tackled advanced calculus topics such as differentiation (chain, product, and quotient rules) and integrated practice with exam-style questions covering probability distributions and financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to remember and implement area and volume rules, leading to slow progress during revision—"he needed tips on memorising these rules to feel more confident."

In Year 12, a lack of careful checking when solving integration problems resulted in using incorrect numbers and missed marks.

For a Year 8 lesson, one student's written working was often skipped or incomplete in algebra tasks, making it harder to spot errors and correct them quickly.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to write answers for fear of mistakes, sometimes leaving questions unfinished after initial setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A Boronia tutor recently noticed a big shift for a Year 12 student who'd struggled with advanced differentiation: after needing lots of guidance last month, she worked through the latest book problems almost entirely on her own, only asking for help with one especially tough question.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 maths, another student who used to freeze up when graphing can now confidently draw and interpret graphs without prompting—last lesson she completed an entire set solo.

For a younger learner, mastering trickier times tables had always been daunting; this week he applied a new strategy independently and finished all his practice questions using it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boronia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia K-12 College.
