I think the first and most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to identify their strengths or weaknesses. This allows both the student and the tutor to have a clear vision of where the student is sitting now. From this point, the tutor can then construct a suitable study goal with the student and build up their knowledge step by…

As a tutor, I should be to guide the student to understand and familiarise them with the subject contents. Also, to test their knowledge in order to make them confident and comfortable when writing an test. In my opinion as a good teacher, you should be able to listen and understand, have a thorough understanding of the subject and deliver the…

I believe the most important part of tutoring is being able to engage students who are struggling with content. It is important for a tutor to be able to ultlise their students interests and passions too the complex problems and engage them with the content more. I my strengths in regards to tutoring by breaking down the complex topics into…

For me the most important aspect of being a tutor is that I must be able to maintain my students motivation. Somewhat like a personal trainer. Most clients hire a personal trainer not solely for their instruction but for their motivation and I belive this also applies in tutoring. Secondly a tutor must be able to explain concepts and ideas on the…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide support and help build their confidence. A tutor should be a steady source of encouragement, reinforcing that mistakes are part of learning and that progress comes with persistence. By creating a positive, judgment-free environment, a tutor can help students believe in…

I consider being a mentor as an important quality in terms of teaching. Without being a reliable consultant, I don't believe a tutor can bring out the best from students. Being a mentor also means setting an example for them; how to manage own study habits and schedules. I will be there to support students in various way, not only for academic…

Enhance students' confidence in their academic ability and empower them to achieve their dreams. I believe this is the most important thing as eventually, a student will cease tutoring, however, if you instil in students a positive mindset towards learning and a belief in themselves, they will be able to motivate themselves to achieve their…

Study the student and know his or her pros and cons. I would say master the pros whilst teaching the pros. Divide the activities and show the student that learning isn't a burden its much of a relief at the end of the day because goals can be reached easier once you know better. I have done public speaking for as long as I can remember, so theres…

I believe that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide supplemental support to the student's primary learning, especially if the teacher's style does not suit the student. This may involve offering alternative teaching styles or diving into deeper details that the teacher may not have time to cover. Ultimately, a…

I believe one of the most important things for a tutor is to give unlimited support to their students, answering their questions properly and patiently both in and out of class. what's more, a tutor should design their class for students and always get well-prepared. Being willing to help, but also acknowledge the rare instances where a tutor may be unable to help to a confident level. I believe it is better to acknowledge if you do not know something rather than pretend you do and risk teaching something that is incorrect. When this problem is encountered, however, it is up to the tutor to rectify this by…

I think a tutor must be understanding and helpful. Finding innovative ways to teach and repeat the same concept. If the teacher teaches the student something and I as the tutor say the same thing, there is no understanding that would be gained. It is important to understand exactly what the student is not clear or sure about and clear those doubts…

I believe that a tutor must be flexible and patient, as all students' needs are different. They have to be persistent and encouraging, and make sure that any success is emphasised and also improved upon. The tutor should not only help the student to understand their coursework, but also help them to implement their own study plans and methods, so…

Not only unraveling inquiries on schoolwork, I believe it is important for them to understand the concepts behind a text or maths questions, such as correlated themes of a text. Equip them with the ability to eventually solve problems independently. At the end of the day, the role of tutoring is to help students foster independent thinking so they can overcome academic challenges on their own, because being self-sufficient is important. The most important things a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are: 1. Foster a love of learning: The best tutors inspire curiosity and make learning enjoyable, not just a chore. 2. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a strong sense of confidence in their abilities. Inside Brandon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Daniel practised solving linear equations and finding the gradient and y-intercept of lines, including working through examples using coordinate points.

In Year 10, Jessica focused on quadratic equations—completing the square and transforming quadratics into different forms—as well as transformations of functions from the Methods course.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Liam tackled rates and algebraic fractions from the Specialist Mathematics syllabus, along with further practice on function transformations to support his advanced studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling quadratics hesitated to show written steps, even when not strictly required; as one tutor observed, "writing out logic helps avoid repeated sign errors," but the urge for neatness led to gaps in working.

In a Year 9 session on conditional probability, a reliance on the CAS calculator without careful input checking caused confusion—incorrect answers went unnoticed until rework was needed.

Meanwhile, a primary student repeatedly left homework incomplete in fractions and times tables, which made later sessions less confident and slowed skill growth. The missing practice showed up during live questions: pauses, doubt, erasing instead of reasoning.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Brandon Park noticed Maddison, a Year 10 student, now sketches clear diagrams to break down challenging linear relation problems—something she previously hesitated to do.

Jack, in Year 11, recently tackled transformations of graphs with far less prompting than before and worked through complex equations independently.

In primary sessions, Olivia has started placing her numbers correctly when multiplying large values; just last week, she confidently completed long multiplication without mixing up digit placement—a big shift from her earlier confusion.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley South Primary School.
