We have all had the experience of a "bad teacher" and we know it's not pleasant. Often the teacher is simply a bad match for that particular student rather than being a "bad teacher" in general but in either case the student has a serious problem. This is why many parents contact us for a private tutor - their child just can't "get it" when their teacher is teaching. It's incredible how one explanation results in more confusion whereas another results in that "aha" feeling we all love so much! It is really a matter of getting the "right" tutor and not the "best" one. We see this every day in our work. A tutor might have hundreds of hours of experience and might have received dozens of testimonials from students, however, even such a tutor doesn't click with all students. Every tutor gets bad feedback sometimes. It's all about getting the right fit and this is what we do!

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Ailish's use of mathematical language and ideas is quite advanced. Her corrections to her work are excellent and she is good at self-diagnosing errors. Ailish also has quite a well developed number-sense and can readily identify when a solution 'doesn't seem right' and self-correct without prompting. I have been attempting to present Ailish with more challenging material since, in the context of her schoolwork, she seems well within her comfort zone.
Attitude and effort is something I am really pleased with during class he is always willing to give the questions I set him a go. However to see faster improvements Cooper will also need to invest some time in the Homework that is set.
Cat is very aware of her strengths and weaknesses allowing us to skilfully plan and use sessions to target her difficulties in graphical analysis. We will continue to address through practice questions and deeper analysis of key concepts.
Jonathan is extremely happy with Jessica and how she has supported him in the three sessions they have already had together. His words following their initial session were, 'I wish she was my Maths teacher at school. She explains things so well.' I was very pleased that Jonathan felt this comfortable with Jessica. The issue of school holidays came up and I asked if sessions stop or continue during this time and Jessica said it was up to Jonathan and I. I asked Jonathan what he would like to do and he actually said he would like to continue the sessions during the holidays. I was surprised and very grateful that Jonathan feels this way, so we will continue through the holidays.
