Biology Tutor Whitlam, ACT
I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to improve a student's confidence with the subject they are tutoring. Once a student has the confidence that they can in fact figure it out they will be far more willing to put in the hard work to improve in the subject. A tutor must encourage their students to ask as many questions as they'd like…

I believe it’s to help them build a habit of studying and to make them grow their interest in learning. By encouraging the students and providing them with an appropriate levels of challenges , the student can become more engaged with the subject. The teacher should provide the students with an appropriate level of challenges that the students…

Listening to their questions, as many children are too scared to ask questions in class, and I hope to provide them a safe space for this. I also think it's important to be flexible, to work with what the kids need. Especially with younger children, who may not necessarily know what exactly they're struggling with. - Patience - Good understanding…

A tutor can make a student love the subject he/she hates. The most important thing for a tutor is to understand the student, his/her interests, aptitude, and what he/she is inclined towards. If you have a basic idea of the student mindset you can develop techniques to make them understand the subject in a way they don't find it hard. Gamification…

I believe it is essential to understand your student, and adapt your teaching and communication style to benefit their learning style, age, personality, and knowledge. It is important for a tutor to really believe in their student, and do all they can to help them excel. I believe I have excellent communication skills as I am able to adapt to each…

Jaya has been absolutely wonderful with both our girls. So greatly appreciative for the way she can relate to both girls. Jaya was able to work with both girls and assist them at achieving their best. If I could rate Jaya she would clearly be a 10/10.

Inside CampbellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Angus worked on expanding brackets and solving linear systems of equations, including using geometric representations of binomials to visualise solutions.

For Year 10, Emily focused on simplifying fractions with exponents and tackled a range of simultaneous linear equations, practicing both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, James in Year 12 reviewed differentiation techniques relevant to his upcoming Maths Methods assessment and spent time analysing the domain of more complex functions to strengthen his understanding for exam revision.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student in Campbell was hesitant to begin worded algebra questions, often waiting for reassurance before translating the scenario into equations—"once prompted, he finished them," a tutor noted.

In Year 10 Physics, another student struggled to independently choose the correct trigonometric rule when faced with multi-step problems, hesitating over how to rearrange bracketed terms.

A senior student preparing for exams did not bring attempted problems to lessons, which meant opportunities for targeted feedback and problem-solving strategies were missed.

Each of these moments left valuable lesson time underused and reduced the chance for deeper confidence to build.

Recent Achievements

A Campbell tutor recently noticed a big shift with Thea (Year 11): after hesitating to speak up in earlier sessions, she now openly says when she's stuck and patiently works through tough concepts. Last lesson, she managed expansion questions entirely on her own for the first time.

In Year 10, Eliza has started catching her own mistakes while rearranging equations, a big change from before when she'd rush ahead and miss errors.

Meanwhile, a primary student remembered all their revision material straight away after struggling last term, confidently solving each problem without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kingston Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Campbell Primary School.
