Inside Caringbah SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Thomas focused on understanding different types of triangles and practiced solving problems involving exterior angles using diagrams.

Year 8 student Emily worked through probability terminology and revised how to interpret data tables and use the x-y axis for relative equations.

For Year 11, Olivia tackled Modern History by gathering sources on Apartheid in South Africa, and also completed source analysis for Ancient History topics such as Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student in Ancient History was encouraged to collect sources as she progressed, but tended to leave this until after finishing assignments—making it harder to reference accurately later ("she would benefit if she gathered sources whilst in the process of learning those areas").

In a Year 7 Maths session, unclear handwriting meant that numbers like '8' sometimes resembled '6', which led to avoidable calculation errors and disrupted working.

Meanwhile, a primary student showed progress on fractions and decimals but often rushed for an answer without breaking down each step. This left small gaps that reappeared when facing more complex worded problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Caringbah South noticed Maiee, a high school student, now confidently links sources to essay questions and rubric points—last term she hesitated to make these connections without prompting.

Another secondary student, Tom, surprised his tutor by tackling harder probability revision questions independently after previously needing step-by-step guidance; he also now uses correct mathematical terminology in problem solving, which had been an earlier hurdle.

In a primary session, one student who used to struggle with multi-digit addition is now working sums out mentally and even told the tutor, "it's easy once you know how to do it."

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caringbah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caringbah Public School.
