The most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s understanding, boost their confidence, and encourage independent thinking. A tutor should create a safe space where the student feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing at their own pace. It’s also crucial to adapt to the student’s learning style and…

In my opinion, there are several important things that a tutor can do to help their students succeed. First and foremost, providing personalized attention and support is essential. By working one-on-one with my students, I can tailor my teaching methods and strategies to meet their unique needs and learning styles. This helps to ensure that they…

Encouragement. When I was a calculus tutor, I noticed how discouraged students could get. It is my job to help them understand as well as be a kind voice telling them that they can do it. I truly believe you can do anything you put your mind to and I try to instill that in my students. I am a very goal oriented tutor. I ask my students what it is…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is continue supporting and motivating a student after a poor result. Rather than allowing a student to feel discouraged or demoralised, a tutor should use this as an opportunity to help them reflect on what went wrong, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to perform better in the…

- being empathetic and not sympathetic. - Maths should be taught in a way that it's no longer scary, and history in a way it's not boring . - homeworks and assignments should be for improvement and not merely a task - be a friend they can confide in , there are 2 types of fuels self sustaining energy once harnessed (like uranium) and the ones…

Provide learning opportunities in a motivational manner. It is one thing to present a student with information and expect them to memorise it. The most important thing a tutor can do is provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where a student feels comfortable making mistakes. Beyond just teaching facts, a tutor should focus on "teaching how to learn," equipping the student with study habits and critical thinking skills that they can use independently. Ultimately, a tutor’s job is to…

Motivate them to study. I think to be dependable and reliable is the best thing for a student, so that they can feel safe with asking for help from their tutor. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is ask the student what they want to get out of tutoring. Every student has different goals, and a good tutor recognises that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. By understanding those goals and regularly revisiting them, the tutor can tailor their teaching methods to suit the individual…

Inside CheltenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Jack reviewed Ohm's Law and the differences between series and parallel electric circuits, also addressing questions from his school work.

For Year 11 Mia, lessons focused on algebraic factorisation of linear expressions and coordinate geometry—calculating midpoints, gradients, and distances between two points.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Olivia worked through exam revision covering quadratic equations, probability problems, graphing equations, and aspects of financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student found aligning number places in decimal calculations confusing, particularly when working on clock questions—her written layout sometimes made it hard to check work for errors.

In Year 8, one student often relied heavily on notes and formula sheets during revision; he wasn't able to do some of the revision questions without looking at his notes, which slowed progress with algebra and indices.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student had incomplete homework in statistics, meaning less time could be spent practicing exam-style problems. Gaps from missing or late schoolwork lingered into revision sessions, especially before assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Cheltenham tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for help, now openly voices questions whenever she's confused—especially during challenging proofs.

In Year 12 maths, Levi struggled with expanding and factorising equations at first, but recently completed all set problems independently and accurately.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary years, who found division daunting before, has started grouping objects into sets using diagrams and then confidently writing out the matching equation without prompting—something she would have avoided just weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Epping Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Epping Heights Public School.
