I think a tutor's role goes beyond simply offering solutions to problems; instead, they should steer students towards finding answers and ensure a solid grasp of the required steps. Additionally, adaptability is crucial, as teaching methods should be flexible to accommodate diverse learning styles. A tutor ought to be non-judgmental, patient, and…

Most important thing is to make the subject easy and interesting for the student. A student should feel confident after the topic is taught. I feel I have the knack of explaining the topic to a student in some of the most simple and easy ways to understand. I am able to identify the pain points of the student for a given topic, and I am able…

Every student is a unique equation, and as a tutor, I thrive on the thrill of cracking the code to each individual's learning style. It's not just about being enthusiastic; it's about being a learning chameleon, adapting colors and strategies to fit the distinctive needs of each student. I listen—really listen—to what they're looking for, and…

I think a tutor should have at least some level of personal connection with the student. A tutor should always motivate students to try their hardest, and also engage them into the subject as much possible. The ability to understand, to some extent at least whether the student has understood that paricular concept or…

In my view, the most important things a tutor can do is to build a positive relationship with a student which is the key to become an effective teacher. This is important because it is impossible to engage a student into learning without building a positive rapport with them. The other important thing is to always encourage them to keep trying and…

I believe a tutor should adapt to the student's learning style. Beyond that, I also consider building a strong bond with the student, creating a supportive and comfortable environment, setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and instilling a sense of confidence and self-efficacy to be equally important. Ultimately, the goal is to…

I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. On of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is make sure they understand the concept fully and understand how a formula was found instead of just using it to solve problems. I also believe it is important to make sure things are explained intuitively to students to help them understand the specifics of a topic better. Lastly, I…

I think being more practical, by being more open. By explaining problems with examples of real life, with things they already know and have seen. Inside Chester HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alessandro worked on mastering division skills, including identifying divisibility rules for numbers like 2, 3, and 6, and also reviewed multiplication techniques to boost speed.

For Year 7, Maya revised operations with fractions—adding, multiplying, subtracting, and dividing them—as well as converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Amir focused on algebraic laws and practiced applying index laws to simplify expressions ahead of his upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student often guessed answers in multi-step word problems instead of carefully breaking down each part, leading to confusion about what was actually being asked.

In Year 8 mathematics, skipping clear working and struggling with the placement of denominators and numerators when adding fractions made it difficult to catch calculation errors or retrace steps for corrections.

As one tutor noted, "He struggles with knowing the next step," especially during long division tasks. This habit sometimes left unfinished workings on the page, making it hard to check progress or understand mistakes after moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Chester Hill tutor noted a Year 9 student who used to hesitate with negative numbers now confidently solves addition and subtraction problems on a timeline without prompting.

A Year 10 student, previously reliant on hints for algebraic expressions, recently tackled expanding and evaluating indices independently during the session.

In primary, a Year 4 learner who would guess answers in reading tasks has begun slowing down to carefully read each question first, leading to more accurate responses.

Last week, she finished all ten comprehension questions without any errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chester Hill Public School.
