I think the most important thing is being patient with students especially if they are struggling with something. Be patient and keep giving him hints and nudge them enough so that they figure it out on their own. Also, it's important to let them know that they are capable enough of solving this and that you believe in their ability to make the…

A tutor must guide students in the best way possible. Understanding their areas of strengths and weaknesses is key to guide them efficiently. Most importantly, do not teach or misguide them with wrong teachings. Communicate with them clearly and in a way that they can easily understand. I am patient and sincere and ensure that students understand…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help students stop fearing what they don’t know. Once that fear is gone, they can focus on real learning instead of just chasing marks. A tutor’s role is to guide them to see mistakes as part of the process, build their confidence, and make knowledge something they’re curious about rather…

A tutor must provide the students a proper guideline, whether it is about studies or anything else. Teaching is a noble profession and it is the respect you earn through it values your opinions and suggestions. So I believe the best a tutor can do for a student is to guide him or her with fruitful suggestions and solutions. I always prefer…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is bridge the gap between abstract concepts and practical understanding, ultimately fostering independence. When tackling complex problem-solving, it is easy for students to get lost in the formulas or the code. My role is to help them break down the system logically and create a safe environment…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to create a supportive learning environment, build their confidence, and foster independent thinking. A good tutor doesn’t just provide answers, but helps students develop the skills and strategies to solve problems on their own. Encouraging curiosity, patience, and a growth…

One of the major advantages to tutoring is that, it is generally conducted one-on one or in a small group, making it possible to provide individual attention to each student. I feel like a tutor has the ability to generate interest of the students towards a subject. Hence, the most important thing that the tutor can do is to actually make the…

The most important thing that any tutor can do for a student is to be a good listener. Knowing a student's expectations is really important in planning effective tutoring techniques. Only when we understand the requirements of the student and the hurdles that he or she face, will we be able to suggest solutions and work towards them. My biggest…

A tutor has to understand what the students need and be eager to help them understand and build their learning skills. Moreover, a tutor needs to maintain that student's motivation and keep them hungry for knowledge. I develop a teaching style that is adaptive to the student's learning style and needs. I l also can correlate the lesson to the…

The most important thing that a tutor can provide a student is the careful confidence to handle a problem. Even with the best of preparation, a student cannot even begin to answer the question if they do not have the confidence and are engulfed by fear. By developing that mindset, students are then able to think clearly, mentalise the steps needed…

In my experience, the most important thing a tutor can do is to try and be in the shoes of the student and understand what he/she might be going through and then inspire and motivate them to learn and make studying feel like a fun thing to do using teaching methods which fit the student's needs. - A lot of patience and the will to make a positive…

Personally, I think striking a balance between fostering a comfortable student-tutor relationship and challenging the student is important. Creating a genuine relationship helps the student open up to the tutor and be honest on what are the topics he/she is having a hard time understanding. On the other hand, challenging the students will help…

Inside ClelandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alyssia worked on balancing chemical equations and explored acidity and pH concepts while preparing for her practice exam.

In Year 10, Jack focused on factorising polynomials and graphing the resulting equations to solidify his understanding of algebraic techniques.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan revised logarithms through targeted test questions and reviewed geometry topics to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student's focus and handwriting habits often led to capital letters appearing mid-sentence, making their writing hard to follow; as noted, "sentences need to be conscientious and not rambling."

In Year 8 mathematics, skipping working steps in algebra—despite understanding—meant errors went unnoticed until the end ("he needs to work on focusing more and not rushing questions").

Meanwhile, a senior chemistry student relied heavily on previous answer formats when tackling molar ratio problems, instead of independently applying concepts. This habit left her uncertain when faced with unfamiliar variations during revision.

Recent Achievements

One Cleland tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to lose marks from "silly mistakes" in tests now checking his work more carefully and asking for clarification on question wording before answering.

Another high schooler, Alyssia, made a real leap in chemistry—she could complete titration equations independently by the end of her session, whereas she'd previously needed step-by-step help.

In Year 4, Oscar has started using commas correctly in his writing after reminders and can now tackle fraction problems with only minimal prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stirling Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Crafers Primary School.
