The most relevant things when it comes to tutoring are being able to connect with the student in a way that they feel motivated and find the help they need in order to learn. I believe students should have access to meaningful learning. I get along very well with children and teenagers and always find the way to motivate and encourage them to…

One of the most important thing a biology tutor can do is reinforcing the student. That is really vital in teaching, positive reinforcements such as praising all the time and encouraging. One of my main strengths are being able to understand the child. I often relate to my experiences and understand them, and I have patience to teach…

Provide them with helpful resources and always challenge them with any topic to ensure they actually understand the concept. I am a very good listener and love to see the ways and techniques my students first try when solving a problem and then help them out when they are struggling. It is always best to teach them your ways with the knowledge…

Create pathways so the student can figure things out on their own as the end goal is the personal development of the student. This can be by increasing their organisational skills or better interpreting questions. Good people skills and able to connect and relate to students. I believe the most important things a biology tutor can do is instill intrinsic motivation within the student to do well and give them the belief that they can improve/have the ability to improve in the given subject. I also believe that tailoring the teaching style to match the learning style of the student is crucial. My strengths include: 1.…

Shubh tutored my son Travis in Term 4 for maths. Travis is in Year 7. We saw a remarkable improvement in Travis' overall attitude to school, not just in maths and we beleive Shubh played a big part in this. Thank you Shubh

Inside Cobaki LakesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Willow focused on **operations with fractions**, including simplifying, converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions, and solving written fraction problems.

In Year 9, Jeremy worked through **Pythagoras' theorem** and measurement geometry, reviewing exam topics such as area, perimeter, and volume of shapes.

For Year 10, Mia covered **algebra fundamentals**—like solving one-variable equations—while also practising how to interpret scatterplots and identify relationships in data sets using real examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student came to a session underprepared for advanced exam questions, having only revised basic content—"I wasn't ready for the in-depth problems," they admitted, which meant time was spent re-covering fundamentals instead of tackling challenging tasks.

In Year 10 algebra, another student's working out was messy and skipped steps, making it difficult to spot sign errors ("needs to improve ability to explain working out").

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student avoided written responses and relied heavily on verbal answers during technology issues; as noted, "to improve would be to test her spelling and grammar by writing her answers down."

Recent Achievements

One Cobaki Lakes tutor noticed Jeremy, a high school student, now reliably checks his algebra work for errors and corrects them himself—when they first started, he'd rush through problems and miss key steps.

Willow, also in high school, recently completed a Grade 7 fractions worksheet independently after struggling with the topic earlier in the term; she's begun converting fractions without prompting to make calculations easier.

Meanwhile, Bella in primary has started proofreading her written responses on her own rather than handing them straight in—last session, she caught and fixed three grammar mistakes before submitting her paragraph.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Elanora Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Augustine's Parish Primary School.
