Build their confidence. A lot of times, students can be smart and yet under-confident which hampers their progress. To be able to explain things in a layman's language, in order to make it a enriching experience for the…

Whilst a tutor is only present with their student for a limited time, they can help by providing a clear understanding of what the syllabus wants and giving resources. They are also there to answer and clarify a student’s questions and assist in developing a structured work routine. Since I have recently completed the HSC and have studied the…

I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

To me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Beyond just imparting knowledge, I believe that a tutor's role is to serve as a guide, mentor, and cheerleader rolled into one. Firstly, it's crucial to create a safe and supportive environment where students…

I believe a tutor is not only a teacher but also a mentor. They are someone for the student to look up to, but also there to help the student develop their understanding through friendship and camaraderie. As they are separate from both school and home settings, they can offer an external and unique perspective on both academic and personal…

I can stay back for extra time just to make they understand the lessons. ACHIEVEMENTS: HSC Mathematics: Band 6 in Mathematic Advanced High Band 5 in Mathematic Extension…

I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Moreover, a tutor should guide their students in a manner in which they can focus on key areas of improvement and then work on realistic goals, which…

A tutor can make the student love to learn new things. A tutor can make life easier for a student by showing him/her that acquiring knowledge is very beneficial and important for prospering in life later on. I can explain my ideas in a really easy way. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

The most important thing that I can do as a tutor would be to make sure the kid understands everything that I teach. Each kid is different. I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are listening to them and paying attention to their needs. Students can be shy and may not make it abundantly clear what they need in any given moment, but there are usually signs, though they may be subtle. It is a tutor's job to monitor the student throughout a lesson and make sure…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine passion…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is support and mentor a student, not just teach the content. That means creating a safe, encouraging space where they feel comfortable asking questions, building their confidence, and being guided. It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. This means not only continuing teaching the student but also means that the tutor should always believe a student can improve with their guidance. In addition, it is essential for a tutor to be able to learn the student's strengths and weaknesses and their way of thinking, so the…

A tutor is someone that a student can rely on for support. They are pragmatic in finding ways to ensure the student has a positive experience with learning. The student is in control, and the tutor is a guide that assists and also facilitates the student to take safe risks, ask questions and completely engage with their learning in ways suitable…

Inside Cremorne PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Xander focused on trigonometric ratios and reviewing concepts from his recent maths exam to reinforce understanding of key topics.

In Year 7, Soraya worked through past paper questions covering algebraic factorisation and quadratic equations, with an emphasis on both the quadratic formula and completing the square.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student practiced rounding numbers as well as using visual aids to understand fractions, building confidence in core numeracy skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, Charlie needed to look back at notes often for trigonometric ratios and equations not provided in exams—this slowed her down during problem-solving and risked gaps if resources weren't available.

In a Year 10 session, one student hesitated with algebraic problem solving, "deferring instead to decimals" when unsure, which meant missed opportunities to build confidence with unfamiliar techniques.

A Year 7 student sometimes left homework incomplete or prioritized easier addition problems over those involving carrying; as noted, "she completed long addition questions that did not need carrying." This led to less practice with the challenging skills required for tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cremorne Point noticed Charlie, a high school student, now tackles past exam papers almost entirely on his own—he used to rely on his notes but recently completed a whole paper independently and highlighted key points for revision.

Soraya, also in high school, demonstrated a big shift by not just solving area questions quickly but explaining her reasoning aloud without prompting; previously she hesitated to share her thought process.

In primary, Xander struggled with number sentences last week but this time answered every one correctly after extra practice, showing real improvement in accuracy and self-correction.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loreto Kirribilli.
