A tutor can always support or help his/ her students, could take student's weakness in a positive way. A tutor can analyse the student's capabilities in a detailed manner which is very helpful to figure out the areas that need more focus and attention. One of my attribute is that i am good at getting to know the student, once i am familiar with…

Be honest as this helps to establish rapport and trust, the two most critical elements to a successful tutoring relationship. The tutor-student relationship should be viewed as a partnership. You are not there to take the place of the instructor. Let the student know you are there to work with her to supplement classroom and individual study. #…

It is important that the tutor understands the needs and the gaps that the student has at the beginning of the sessions. An understanding of the needs of the student ensures that key objectives and targets are set with the student to drive ownership. As a tutor, it is also important to constantly assess the impact of my tutoring method in order to…

In my opinion, a tutor must be able to empathize with the student and create a safe space for them. Its important to be constructive and patient especially with the ones that take time to grasp topics. One must keep instructions clear and always strive to empower the child by focusing on their strengths. Engage them instead of lecturing…

Other than imparting the lessons in school, I think being able to empathize with the students is key in effective teaching. As a matter of strategy, what I will do is to meet them where they are academically, then prepare a plan and implement it to be able to meet our goal(s). I have the ability to relate with young kids well. Raising three…

I think the most important thing is help students understand concepts and build confidence. A tutor should be patient, supportive, and able to adapt to the student’s needs. A tutor needs to always be supportive. A student needs a tutor because (s)he wants help. Sometimes not getting a good result can be frustrating for them. A tutor needs to make sure that the students are motivated to improve. I'm good at understanding why the students are stuck, whether it is not knowing how to apply a formula or weak algebraic…

For me, the important thing that I can do for my students is helping them to build confidence. I guess most students tend to hire tutors not because they are not good at the subject somehow, but because they lack confidence and interest in it. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to assist them comprehend the nature of an issue, rather than always providing the solution. Inside Croydon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ali practised converting between kilometres, metres, centimetres and millimetres, and began multiplying by 10s, 100s, and larger multiples through real-world word problems.

For Year 8, Emily focused on rearranging linear equations and inequalities, then moved into graphing linear equations using guided worksheet exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jacob revised index laws and scientific notation with a focus on applying rules to simplify expressions and convert between standard and scientific form.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student struggled to keep written work clear in algebra—notes mention, "she could consider spacing out her writing, which would help her see things clearer and avoid miscues."

In Year 9, a test was missed because the tutor wasn't told in advance, so support couldn't be provided.

For a younger student, incomplete homework ("Forgot to do her homework") meant less time practicing new concepts.

One senior learner found it hard to remember formulas under pressure; as described: "Finds difficulty remembering formulas that are needed for tests," leading to frustration when recalling methods during assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Croydon Park tutor recently saw a Year 10 student stop relying on guessing and start talking through her process out loud when stuck, which helped her break down worded questions faster than before.

In another session, a Year 8 student who used to rush through homework now takes the time to write each step and explain her reasoning, leading to fewer mistakes in classwork.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled with identifying operations in word problems is now able to independently decide whether to use subtraction or multiplication and solve multi-step problems on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Parks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret Mary's School.
