It is all about knowing the audience. Not all kids/students have the same skillset, some are good in memorizing, some are good in analogy, some are good in logic and arithmetic. So it's about knowing their strengths and align it in a way that it would enhance their ability to learn. I am very dynamic and very patient in terms of tutoring, the…

I have patience to see particularly my…

Some of the most important things, I believe, a tutor can do for a student are provide the student with the comfort that it is alright to make mistakes and it is the learning from them is what is important. Every student is different and it is the responsibility of the tutor to convey themselves in a way which caters to their understanding. It is…

As a tutor, I believe that the most important thing I can bring to a student is a different perspective on the subject matter they are studying. While teachers and textbooks can be great resources, they often present the material in a standardized and one-size-fits-all way that may not resonate with every student. By providing a different voice…

Empathise: A tutor should provide encouragement, build confidence, and create a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I try to think of many ways to explain a concept to a student. You never know which approach might work for a student. So, adaptability would be one strength. I think another one is…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, develop their problem-solving skills, and foster a genuine understanding of the subject. In my view, teacher is the most important person for a student after their parents. School level students spend more time with their teachers than with their parents. Inside CurtinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Amy worked on graphing and manipulating parabolas, focusing on how changes to the equation affect the shape and position of the graph.

For Year 10, Daniel practised factorising and expanding quadratics, building confidence by working through examples step-by-step.

In senior secondary, Year 11 student Sarah explored trigonometric identities with targeted exercises and began applying these concepts using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly relied on a calculator for basic multiplication and squares, slowing progress in timed test settings—"required calculator for simple multiplying (x3 etc.)," as noted.

In Year 11 exam revision, one student focused heavily on questions she felt less confident about, spending too long and missing easier marks elsewhere.

For a Year 9 assessment draft, procrastination led to last-minute work and difficulty meeting deadlines.

Meanwhile, a primary-level learner skipped showing steps when squaring brackets in algebra; this hid sign errors until marking time.

During exams, another senior student struggled with pacing, leaving parts unfinished.

Recent Achievements

A Year 10 student, who previously struggled to move beyond copying solutions, has started creating his own additional questions and modifying textbook examples—this shift has helped him boost his exam mark from 50% to 71%.

In a senior session, another high schooler set a goal to improve from a C to a B grade and took the initiative to draft a personalised study planner, now prioritising media and science assessments on his own.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student began voluntarily opening her maths book between sessions and investigating calculator functions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Woden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Trinity Primary School.
