I always create a safe, respectful learning space where my students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I can instil good study habits where my students become independent learners. I aim to help my students to understand, not memorise, so they grasp concepts and apply them independently. I am friendly and easy to get along…

For me, the teachers that have had the most impact are the ones that were more of a role model figure rather than an authoritative figure. So i belive being patient with students and allowing them to feel comfortable and learn at their own pace is the best thing a tutor can do for their student. Comprehensive understanding of the subject. I am…

1. Providing a figure of support - It's important that a student feels comfortable asking their tutor questions and knows that they will be taken seriously no matter how simple the question may seem. 2. Encouragement - It's easy for students to lose confidence when they can't understand something, and as a tutor it's important that you can help…

A tutor is more than just one that imparts knowledge. Any textbook, podcast or Youtube Video can do that. The power of a good tutor is in his or her ability to strengthen and encourage their students, so helping them gain some momentum to keep persevering in subjects that are challenging them. This means patiently helping the students understand…

For me, as a student, what I sought from my tutor was discovering how I learn best, rather than adhering to a one-size-fits-all approach. I also valued having someone with whom I could freely share my thoughts without fear of judgment, essentially a friend. Intuitive( I can understand and know when a topic boring and making it fun or finding a…

According to my experience, student need to get overall objective and subjective knowledge to compare ideal and non-ideal example of real world experience through tutor. The best thing tutor can do is to motivate and educate the student by connecting from the student’s point of interest. Besides, tutor should prepare objective questions to make…

As I have mentioned in my strength, I consider that it is very important to be an easy person to interact with. It enables students to be comfortable with the tutor and clarify their doubts. It is also important for the tutor to do his homework before tutoring and understand the learning speed of the student. Tutors must not be boring and make…

Finding the right method to educate a student. The way you present your working and explanation should always suit the students learning style. I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide support and help them develop independence in their learning. Jacqui, Daglish

Inside DaglishTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Lily focused on division of fractions and key algebra skills, including graphing and basic trigonometry.

For Year 10, Ava practiced volume and surface area calculations for composite shapes and tackled negative indices with some review of algebraic expressions.

In Year 11, Jack reviewed factorisation techniques alongside the first three index laws, using worked examples to solidify understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided homework tasks, leading to extra time spent re-explaining algebra and index laws during sessions ("did not attempt the homework set for him last lesson").

In Year 11 Chemistry, difficulty organizing notes meant that concepts like equilibrium graphs had to be revisited across multiple lessons before progress was made.

One Year 8 learner struggled with fractions and negative numbers, yet rarely wrote out working—this often hid misunderstandings until errors appeared in final answers.

Meanwhile, a senior English student hesitated to write ideas down due to perfectionism; as one tutor put it, "needed more confidence putting English ideas on paper."

Recent Achievements

A Daglish tutor noticed one high school student, previously hesitant to show her working, now confidently explains each step aloud while solving complex algebra problems—a real shift from her earlier guesswork.

Another senior student has started tackling challenging essay questions independently, using specific quotes and refining arguments after struggling last term with structure and evidence.

In a recent Year 4 session, a younger learner who used to rush through multiplication is now pausing to write out every step, reducing mistakes and showing more careful reasoning.

Last week, she completed all division problems without skipping steps.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Shenton College.
