I think it is very important that a biology tutor really listens to what their student needs in order to cater to these needs. I always like to ask my students how they usually study and what they have found works best for them. I also like to introduce my students to other methods of learning that I believe may be beneficial to them, when working…

Not only is knowing the content extremely important, but the way tutors teach the content is more important. Every student has their own needs, and a biology tutor must recognise that some teaching strategies might work for some but not work for others. My strengths is my teaching style. I believe my ability to connect with the student allows the…

I think it's okay for tutors to make mistakes while teaching, but these mistakes have to be found out and clearly explained to the students afterwards. Hence the most important thing I think as a biology tutor is to be sincere and responsible. I am academically excellent on Maths and I am fully confident on teaching this subject since I achieved…

This involves listening closely to what the student wants to achieve in regards to the studies, and creating an effective communication system whereby the tutor…

It's about creating a positive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Furthermore, setting achievable goals and nurturing a passion for learning are also…

Some of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is basically giving them the ability to simply understand their work, as this understanding forms the foundation of what they need to know and without this understanding they would not be able to pus themselves forward into learner their work on a broader perspective. Educators play an important role in how students minds are shaped and how they approach problems in their studies. Believing in students that they can achieve their goal is one of the most important aspects of teaching them so it encourages them to strive towards their goal rather than realise they aren't capable enough. Watching them set out a…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to encourage them and to listen to them. A tutors job is to guid a student in the right redirection. A tutor can tailor the their teaching to the students needs so they are both working together. The tutor must be an excellent listener to understand how the student thinks and what…

Inspire them. Anyone can regurgitate textbook material in a different way. But only few can truly educate and inspire their students to become the very best version of themselves. Some of the strengths that I believe are quite necessary for a tutor other than leadership are resilience, and the ability to properly analyse a students learning…

Help them reach their full potential without doing all the work for them; I think it is important to let them do some hard work now and again so they can appreciate it more when they are congratulated for their success, and so that they are not 'coddled' into thinking other people will do all their work for them. Some of my strengths would…

Education is the single most powerful tool that can shape the way our youth thinks. It plays an instrumental role in moulding a child's perspective on almost everything. We make sure that the learning experience will be created in a format that students would like. It was always effective, but we will try to make it interesting with…

In my opinion it is extremely important to ensure the learner knows that it is safe to not succeed at first as learning is a process full of unsuccessful attempts. This will allow students to participate fearlessly in a biology tutoring session. Building that trust and relationship with students is an integral part of tutoring. It will enable…

I think being positive and encouraging is the best thing a biology tutor can do. With previous students I have tutored, I found that many of them lacked the confidence in themselves, making them less interested in the work and anxious about assessments. But breaking the question/concept down, encouraging them to try, suggesting different methods…

Inside Daisy HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lachlan worked on Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry basics, followed by practice with congruent and similar triangles using diagrams.

Year 9 student Xavier revised algebraic factorisation and applied index laws to simplify expressions, also reviewing substitution in equations based on previous test feedback.

For Year 6, Lucas practised arithmetic with negative numbers, tackled square roots, and solved problems involving highest common factors and lowest common multiples through step-by-step examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, skipping steps when factorising meant small sign errors crept in; as one tutor observed, "he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps."

In Year 8 geometry, neatness was flagged: diagrams for congruent triangles were hard to follow because sides and angles weren't clearly labelled.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student hesitated with division word problems, sometimes avoiding pen-to-paper practice—this slowed progress with equations.

A senior maths student relied heavily on a formula sheet for box-plots instead of recalling processes independently during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daisy Hill noticed one Year 11 student, who used to hesitate when facing assessment criteria, now proactively refines her PSMT drafts and asks for targeted feedback—showing real initiative.

In Year 10 maths, a student who previously guessed through congruency proofs is now clearly identifying the type of congruency in each problem and explaining their reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, during a primary session, a younger learner who felt anxious about class tests was able to revise most topics independently from the worksheet with less worry and attempted more questions independently than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Hyperdome Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Daisy Hill State School.
