A tutor should provide clear and accurate explanations, help students identify and address gaps in their knowledge, and guide them through challenging concepts in a structured and approachable way. In my view, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. This means going beyond simply helping them complete assignments and prepare for exams, and instead working with them to build a foundation of knowledge and skills that they can apply to future challenges. A good…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is act as a mentor or a guide to help them through their studies. Studying, in general, is tough and it is all a mental battle which can be quite draining. As a result, it is important for the tutor to create a safe learning environment and build confidence within the student…

Build their confidence. It is unlikely to score high marks if you are not confident, even if you understand the concepts. Building confidence helps reduce and stress anxiety which can help students learn, practice and sit exams more effectively My strengths as a tutor would be my understanding of struggling students and roundabout methods I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a positive role model, and be someone to look up to, someone who can be relied upon for any academic issue. I think the biggest problem is that students are afraid of being judged or scared of what tutors might think of them, and I believe that establishing that open honest…

Is to empathise with the student. Tell them that you know what it's like to be in their shoes, and put their minds at ease with your ability to translate your expertise to them. At the end of the day, the student wants to improve their confidence. Confidence can be built by gaining the students trust in your Mathematical or Physics ability. My…

A tutor can train students to think, learn, and problem solving which are key skills in human learning, and especially significant in mathematical problem solving. Explain. If a tutor can explain a concept in a way a student can understand and then is able to remember it and be able to apply it, the tutor has succeeded in his role. Also being able to listen to students, as a tutor should be able to find small mistakes and correct them as questions require perfection to some degree to achieve maximum marks.…

The most important thing for a tutor is to not feed the student to information but to guide them as they learn. It's to teach the students how to learn independently and invoke within them a passion and a want for more learning and knowledge. To show students that studying is not a chore but a tool and a privilege that they can use. As a young…

I believe a tutor should help prepare and encourage students to be more competitive in their school exams, rather than just simply re teach what they learn. Most important things a tutor can do are personalizing the learning, maximise students strength in a variety of topics, sharing their own HSC experiences which cures the anxiety of the student and most of all being patient with the student and explaining it to him as many times as he asks. Inside Dean ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised subtracting four-digit numbers and reviewed strategies for tackling five-digit numbers.

In Year 8, Josh worked on algebra skills by solving equations involving fractions and identifying the point of intersection between lines.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah focused on advanced trigonometry, applying the sine rule to find unknown angles and using the cosine rule to calculate triangle side lengths in non-right-angled scenarios.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often rushed through multi-step problems in fractions, leading to missed working and confusion when reviewing errors—one tutor noted, "his homework was quite challenging to read," as cramped layout made mistakes hard to spot.

In Year 10 algebra, a student hesitated to write out steps due to uncertainty, so sign errors slipped past unnoticed.

Another (Year 7) struggled to keep work organized; forgotten or misplaced homework meant time was lost searching for notes instead of practicing new material.

When a Year 11 attempted trigonometry questions, skipping calculator checks led to repeated angle mix-ups and incomplete answers.

Recent Achievements

One Dean Park tutor noticed a real shift with Nick, a high school student who previously needed frequent help on algebraic fractions—he simplified complex expressions and solved equations almost independently. James, another high schooler, had been hesitant about simultaneous equations but now confidently eliminates variables and substitutes to find solutions on his own.

Meanwhile, Aaron in primary has started tackling division algorithms without reminders; he now volunteers strategies for practical word problems and checks his answers before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like William Dean Public School.
