I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to inspire them to aim higher than where they currently are and to act as a guide towards that goal. It is also important for us to be there for them when they need us but not spoonfeeding them so that they can learn for themselves. I am disciplined and would instil the same sense of…

1. The tutor should be open minded and let the student show any problems in their homework or tests etc. 2. I can be assertive, but not authoritative. Students tend to become discouraged if they find that their tutor is directing/forcing information when uncalled for. Some of my stregnths include: - setting an agenda before we start each class…

Naturally, a tutor's main priority is to provide profound and thorough knowledge through clear communication. I believe that while this is nuclear to the role, this teaching can only be achieved if the tutor also carries other accompanying qualities. This includes patience and listening, aforementioned, and trust. As a tutor, it is inevitable that…

Communication skills is a vital skill that I have gained through my experience volunteering at a kindergarten and primary school and I would be able to apply this when communicating with the students. Along with communication, I've also taken on the skill of active listening which would be important for when I need to hear a student's or parents'…

Being there for a student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Whilst tutors are there to help guide a student's learning progress, they should also present themselves as a supportive friend. The relationship between a student and tutor is important and aspects like giving general advice, and helping students during…

The most important thing a tutor can do would be to maintain a strict regimen on what is expected in a student. Students that are set in the easy and slow pace that their classroom teachers assert themselves will fall behind easily. It is vital that a tutor recognise and go the extra mile to attain new resources and schedules for their student to…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is ensuring that the student knows the content that has been taught. Also make sure that you are listening to the student and try to minimise their weaknesses and maximise their strengths. As a tutor, my strengths are being confident and only speaking what I know of. I will only teach…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that they can truly understand the student's problem and help in a way best suited for the individual instead of a generic method. They should also assist the student and not add to their difficulty in understanding the topic. My strengths are that I am a good listener and can articulate my…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students feel safe to try, fail, and grow. Many students come into tutoring thinking they are "just bad at maths," and it's our job as tutors to help break that mindset. From my own experience, I know how powerful it is when someone takes the time to understand your gaps, explain things at…

The most important thing a tutor can offer his student is the gift of knowledge. My excellent ability to make sure my student understands the content instead of rote memorizing is the key to success. The most important thing a tutor can do for his student is that he can pass down his knowledge to his students that shall help them in the future. A tutor should be patient and understanding. They should listen and come up with ways ti teach which will better suit their student. I believe building a trust connection with the student is necessary so they don't hesitate to ask for help. I am a good listener, I will be able to understand the area of confusion better. If I don't know any part…

Being able to help students understand what they're learning and then carrying that over and applying that to any assessments they may have. Making sure the student is confident in their own ability and that they remain calm during stressful situations where they may be short on time is also very important. To be understanding if a student does not fully grasp a concept, and finding new ways to explain. It is important to acknowledge that all students have different learning styles and to try to build relationships with students so they are comfortable enough to tell their when they don’t understand without being hesitant due to fear of judgement.…

I believe a tutor should assist each student with their learning style to achieve the best in a subject and also be a good role model to help them in their school journey. Inside Doncaster EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised long division with remainders and explored onomatopoeias to strengthen both numeracy and creative language skills.

For Year 8, Lily worked through textbook review questions in measurement, focusing on applying Pythagoras' theorem to find missing side lengths in right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Daniel concentrated on trigonometry by identifying which trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine, or tangent) to use when solving for unknown angles or sides in various problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Biology, a student avoided making her own notes on cellular respiration, which meant key details (like inputs/outputs) were not fully memorised; as one tutor noted, "she needs to create her own notes to help with memorisation."

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Maths, another student relied heavily on mental calculations for algebra and skipped writing out steps—when mistakes happened, it became difficult to spot where things went wrong.

A Year 7 student sometimes struggled to identify what the question was asking in worded problems and spent extra time working backwards rather than building a clear process first.

Recent Achievements

One Doncaster East tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to attempt harder algebra questions now works through complex inequalities independently, giving every question a try and getting them right.

In VCE Biology, another high school student who used to rely heavily on hints now confidently explains each stage of photosynthesis without prompting and answers new cellular respiration questions accurately.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, a younger learner who once mixed up coin values can now count $5 and $10 notes correctly while adding up change, finishing her money exercises with no help needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Pines Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Donburn Primary School.
