The ability to understand a student and their learning style is something I highly value in a chemistry tutor. In school classes where they are often one of many, they may find that the teaching style may not work for them and that they cannot achieve their goals. In a tutoring scenario, we are able to cater to them more specifically, to be…

Chemistry Tutor Huntly, VIC
Form a strong connection so that the student is confident to ask for help as this will help them succeed if they are able to learn the correct knowledge and the tutor knows how best the student learns. As a student myself, I find it important to apply the content you are learning so as a tutor I often review the content with applied questions and…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for students is to give them the confidence to believe in their abilities in order for them to view themselves as capable enough to learn new things, work hard and perform their best. This starts with the tutor identifying the student's area of need and working hard alongside them to improve it.…

Inside Eaglehawk NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jack worked on the foundations of algebra in maths and practised identifying similes and metaphors during English, using examples from texts.

In Year 8, Sophie tackled solving linear equations in maths and focused on proof reading and writing strong essay introductions for English.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam revised trigonometry basics in maths, including right-angled triangles, and planned a Wonder essay by outlining key points for clear structure.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to keep their maths working neat and organized during fraction problems—"handwriting and maths neatness" was flagged, leading to confusion between steps and slower progress.

In Year 10 English, forgetting to complete assigned homework meant that text analysis skills couldn't be built up over the week; "needs to focus on English homework so we can complete our learning objectives."

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student was unable to review errors from a recent test because they hadn't brought it along: "we were unable to find it," so specific feedback opportunities slipped by.

Recent Achievements

One Eaglehawk North tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to freeze up during worded maths problems now stops and identifies what's being asked before working through each step, instead of guessing or skipping ahead.

In a recent Year 8 session, the student recognised gaps in their knowledge and started asking for clarification when stuck—something they previously avoided out of embarrassment.

Meanwhile, a younger student was excited to show off their newly organised homework folder and completed all assigned work neatly without reminders for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Eaglehawk Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eaglehawk North Primary School.
