I think the most important aspect of being a responsible and helpful tutor is being patient with the student. Every student has a different understanding ability so being patient and explaining the task clearly to the student is very important. I believe I can understand each student's weakness and strength, understanding their psychology and…

It is crucial that a tutor be patient with students and understanding of their learning background. A tutor also has to be flexible and attentive to their students to know when one approach to a subject is not working for them or another is needed. My most useful strength as a tutor that I have developed while working at a tutoring center is…

Listen to the student and do not rush them. Sometimes taking time on a simpler problem instead of skipping straight to the hard stuff is far more beneficial. I have great communication skills and feel I have a strong ability to explain complex problems in a simple and understandable…

I believe one of the things a tutor should find important is to help find coping mechanisms the students can use to ease their exam anxiety. As well as that I believe a tutor should work at the pace that best suits the student rather than the tutor. I believe that I am an outgoing, confident and kind person who can get along with all types of…

Encouragement. When I was a calculus tutor, I noticed how discouraged students could get. It is my job to help them understand as well as be a kind voice telling them that they can do it. I truly believe you can do anything you put your mind to and I try to instill that in my students. I am a very goal oriented tutor. I ask my students what it is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to act as a facilitator, to give them the tools to help them realise their full potential. Motivate and inspire students. Tutors should create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel motivated to learn. They should also provide students with regular feedback and praise. My ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise way. I believ that a tutor should form a strong connection so students can enjoy the process of learning and studying. Ultimately, this fosters a healthy relationship with education and prepares them for lifelong self-learning and motivation. I have strong organisational skills which assist me in lesson planning. I believe the most important aspect of being a tutor, is being a collaborator. Rather than giving the student the answers, it should be treated as a partnership in which you guide them on how to learn themselves and act as a dependable figure to show they're not alone in their experiences. Helping students build confidence is arguably the most important and beneficial thing a tutor can do. I firmly believe that confidence is the building block of success, and that, by bringing it out of a student, a tutor can unlock the student's full potential, and empower them to expand their skills and capabilities. Volunteering as an instructor…

It is to provide a healthy learning environment. There should be a good rapport between the student and the teacher. The teacher should make the student feel that they are valued and appreciated. It is the primary goal of the tutor to make the student feel that they are well guided and that they are learning the lessons. I am flexible. In dealing…

Inside East LindfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student James focused on consolidating money calculations and tackling worded multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions.

In Year 9, Trai worked through plotting linear equations from tables and practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages while also reviewing rounding strategies.

For Year 11, Mario completed exam revision by practising logarithm questions alongside trigonometry and quadratic factorisation problems to strengthen his understanding before assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, a student frequently left working out blank when solving money questions and converting cents to dollars; as noted, "we didn't have much time at the end to cover it," which led to confusion when reviewing.

In Year 8 algebra, another student avoided writing steps and often erased work, resulting in repeated sign errors—"he rushes his work and does not write down his working making it easy to make mistakes."

For a Year 11 probability test, incomplete homework meant weaker recall of methods for combinations; missing practice resulted in stumbling on exam-style tasks under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in East Lindfield noticed a big shift for a Year 10 student who, after struggling with bearings questions last week, managed to get nearly all of them right on her recent test.

Another high schooler showed real independence by solving for x without prompting by the end of the session—previously, he'd always needed step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to confuse fraction placement could now accurately order fractions himself, finishing up by explaining his reasoning out loud for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lindfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lindfield East Public School.
