According to me, it is to be open and provide a comfortable environment to the students, where they can study and share their thoughts without hesitating. Apart from this, it is to make learning a fun process by teaching in a more fun way, this includes doing different activities to make children understand the concepts, etc. I do possess great…

More important than anything else, an effective tutor must be able to meet the student at their level, whether that is their level of understanding or lack thereof of a given topic, or even going the extra mile and help the student address or deal with the external circumstances they face that affect their academic performance. My main strengths…

Help them become enthusiastic about learning, and change how they see what they are capable of. I am good at improving a students ability to learn. As someone who has ADHD, I have found ways at managing my time and efforts that are both very effective in achieving consistently outstanding results, and sustainable, which my students can apply not…

Personal relation. The feeling of not annoying the teacher but the teacher being there for them even if the student asks the same question multiple times. To be a part of their result for example if they pass to try to be a part of their happiness and if they are unable to achieve the result they intend to then to try to be comforting and motivate…

If I can make a student begin thinking more about the subject than just a grade to obtain, I would have felt that I made one more curious person. Curiosity is the root of knowledge in my opinion, and it would be the seed that I can share with the students that I engage with. I believe, they would lie in science, especially with regard to my…

I believe that a tutor can provide valuable help and support for their student. Since they have already done the coursework, they are able to assist their student with the same work. Furthermore, since they have personally been through the experiences similar to that of their student, tutors are able to understand the difficulties experienced by…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to understand the student's way of learning from a very broad perspective and try to impart knowledge in a way that they can throughly comprehend and apply. The tutor should also try to cover all components of the course and assist them in working through the areas in which the student is…

Students all learn differently, in different ways, and at different times. A student may be a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic (movement) learner. Some are a combination of all three types of learning styles. I believe it is a tutor's job to cater their teaching style to each student, and provide them with a tailored learning experience that…

I believe that a tutor should be prepared for the session and knows the students needs. Because students abilities are different, so the tutor should know his students very well. Clarifying the problem and then develop the critical thinking ability in the students. Moreover, the progress of students should be monitored carefully. I am a very…

Inside Eden HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Austin revised multiplication and division one-step algebra equations and practiced identifying proper, improper, and mixed fractions using diagrams.

In Year 7, Eli tackled addition and subtraction of integers along with methods for operating with prime numbers, while also revisiting fraction concepts from the previous week.

Meanwhile, Alex in Year 8 focused on simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and solving one-step equations involving all four operations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, skipping written steps during practice made it harder to spot sign errors—one tutor noted, "he worked out answers mentally but missed key negatives."

For a Year 11 student preparing for an upcoming maths test, anxiety about performance led to rushing through transformations questions and leaving some working blank.

In Year 3 comprehension homework, not reading instructions fully resulted in only partial answers being given.

Across both primary and senior years, several students struggled with neatness in written work and often left stories or solutions poorly formatted. This led to extra time spent reworking assignments rather than progressing further.

Recent Achievements

One Eden Hill tutor recently saw Zev, a high school student, start taking responsibility for his learning by requesting breaks to stay focused and asking for more challenging times tables—he's now attempting problems independently before seeking help.

Another older student, after struggling with algebraic expressions in the past, managed to expand expressions using the Distributive Law without prompting and showed real persistence on tricky questions.

Meanwhile, Grace in primary school has begun writing full sentences unprompted in her comprehension work; last session she planned and wrote an opening paragraph for her story with clear structure and creative ideas.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bassendean Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eden Hill Primary School.
