A tutor is both an educational and emotional support for a student. They help students in their care to develop the skills and confidence that they need to be successful in the learning. I am a Primary School Teacher and I currently teach in Year 4 classroom. My strengths are in reading intervention, differentiated spelling instruction and…

There are many important things a tutor can do for their students however, the greatest thing is being a supportive role model. If the student is able to respect and understand their tutor, there is a high chance that student looks up to that tutor. Therefore, it is important that the tutor can develop a professional relationship with the student…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest strength…

I believe a tutor should give encouragement generously. A tutor should also empower students by teaching them skills that will help them throughout their schooling and beyond. I care about my students. I try to identify their learning style so that I'm better equipped to help them. I encourage my students to work their way through problems instead…

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish [and give him a rod] and you feed him for a lifetime." I think the most important thing that I can do for a student is to provide them with understanding and tools to solve their own problems. I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts (as I am completing an Advanced…

Local Reviews

We have used EzyMaths a couple of times for supporting our son when he felt a little overwhelmed. Our first tutor, 4 years ago, was a wonderful young woman who impressed me and won over my son, who was in Grade 5 at the time, with her manner and ability to coax the best out of him. She set him up with study approaches and learning strategies that carried him through to last year. Over the past two terms we have had another tutor for him, as the maths has become more difficult, and Sally has been fantastic. She has helped him with his confidence and understanding of the material, additional study approaches and exam strategies. The way Sally approaches the tutoring session is also rubbing off on him. He now has a list of topics he wants to cover in a session ready to go when Sally walks in the door, and I love to see him taking charge of his learning. I have been very pleased with EzyMaths, I have found them helpful and the administration is simple.

Inside Elizabeth EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Kody practised division and addition, working through example problems to build fluency.

In Year 8, Chase focused on comparing and contrasting media types in English as well as researching the Vikings for a history PowerPoint project.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia revised trigonometry topics by solving word problems involving sides and angles of triangles, and also tackled statistics concepts like finding the mean, median, and mode using practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student working on spelling and reading was observed to speed through his reading, especially when he couldn't pronounce a word, and skipped lines, which made it difficult to fully grasp meaning or build confidence.

In Year 8 mathematics, one learner's written work often lacked clear steps—the writing part involving the process and steps require more practice and thoughtful effort—which hid where errors occurred in algebra.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student preparing for tests felt tense and avoided revisiting topics not covered in lessons due to time constraints; as a result, gaps remained in revision before assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Elizabeth East tutor recently saw a Year 9 student who'd previously hesitated to ask for help now actively communicate when stuck on division and addition, leading to smoother sessions.

A high schooler named Caitlin has begun tackling geometry problems independently—where she once needed step-by-step guidance, she now attempts almost all questions herself before seeking clarification.

Meanwhile, another senior student, Chelsea, showed a notable shift by completing her equations homework with minimal assistance and handing in neatly organised work. Last session, she chose to solve the final set of complex calculations without any prompting from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Playford Civic Centre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Elizabeth East Primary School.
