A tutor needs to make the subject interesting and relevant to the real world situations so that the student is able to apply the concepts and the knowledge becomes ingrained in them. Knowledge of the subject and communication are my core strengths. I am also keen to learn and believe that teaching is a two-way process. I am thorough and make sure…

In my mind, not only a tutor provides knowledge for a student but also brings out their best characteristics. During the teaching procedures, a tutor can help student to learn better the subject, be fond of it, and through that teaches them social skills or practical application. Through my past experience as a teaching assistant, I develop my…

A good tutor should always be patient and supportive while also making classes engaging. Maintaining a positive attitude not only strengthens the teacher-student relationship but also boosts students' confidence in their learning. An engaging class is essential, as students need a break from the overwhelming amount of content they are absorbing. …

I see a tutor as someone who can motivate students to learn and build the students' confidence to recognize their strengths. Like planting a tree, it may take sometime for teaching to be rewarding but it has a great impact as a tutor get a chance to contribute to a positive change in students' life. I see myself as a communicative, friendly,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there with them, really listening and understanding. When we connect on a personal level and show genuine interest, it sparks their curiosity and makes them want to learn more. As a tutor, my goal is to light that fire within them, to make them excited about the subject and eager to…

The most important thing is to listen and understand your students. Once you understand what they want and need, and how they work, you can develop teaching and learning methods that can push them to their best selves. Communication is also vital in a tutor-student dynamic. I tend to observe people a lot, so it’s easy for me to figure out their…

However, I've learnt that the most effective way to support a student is by…

As a student myself, the important things a tutor can do for a student can provide a clear and simple explanation and help them how to break down a given problem and apply the learned concept in real-life scenarios. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to show the easiest method to learn the content of the subject. A tutor can teach the way to decode the subject matter. Once, the tutor teach the method to learn and the student understand that method, a student should become independent to learn similar topics. I think a tutor…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them believe in themselves. Academic support is important, but confidence is what truly changes everything. It was incredibly easy to get started with EzyMath Tutoring. A couple of clicks, a phone call and we were in business! My son's tutor is great - he is showing my son lots of alternative strategies and is highlighting areas for practice before their next session. I know measurable results will take time but we are happy with the progress thus far. And, more importantly, my son is feeling more confident and engaged in math class.

Inside Essendon NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden worked through converting fractions to decimals and solving percentage problems, focusing on clear step-by-step calculations.

In Year 11, Ethan tackled linear motion and gravitational motion in Physics, including rearranging formulae to solve for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara concentrated on Special Relativity concepts in Physics and practiced applying electromagnetic induction principles to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics and Maths, one student repeatedly relied on formula sheets for even basic questions and struggled to connect formulas with real-world meanings. "He still just sees a formula as the thing you use to plug values in," a tutor noted after an interest rate problem, leading to confusion when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, missing or jumbled working steps caused errors—skipping writing out calculations led to lost numbers during matrix problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to sprawl working across the page resulted in confusion mid-way through multi-step perimeter tasks; details were missed or units mixed up.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon North tutoring session saw a high school student, Alex, who previously struggled to identify which formulas to use in finance and matrix problems, now tackling complex questions independently and rarely making calculation errors.

Another win came when Matthew, also in high school, showed real initiative by completing extra work on amortisation tables—something he'd found confusing before—and could explain the difference between nominal and effective interest rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ella in Year 6 moved from hesitating over worded inequality problems to confidently solving them after working through a hands-on example with pencils and pens.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon North Primary School.
