Give the student hope that they are able to do achieve something. I am that person where if u promise someone something that you know won't be achieved will damage that students confidence more than saying 'I can't promise anything, but I will try my absolute hardest to get you to your destination'. By giving students hope, and belief that they…

Education is one of the most important assets one can possess. I believe that I serve an onus to the youth to teach and share ideas with them. As students are young, it is important to start them on the right footing early. - I am organised and able to deliver theory in a concise way. - I can accurately and precisely teach students while making…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. A tutor should also be patient in order to make the student feel welcomed whenever they are in a predicament academically. Other than that, a tutor should be friendly so the students feel…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, support their individual learning needs, and encourage independent thinking. It’s not just about giving answers it’s about helping students develop the skills to solve problems on their own. A good tutor creates a safe, supportive environment where…

A tutor can offer student great flexibility in teaching materials and methods that may not be available in a classroom setting. Going through the student's difficulties one by one, with personal attention, makes a significant difference to a learning environment. I see a tutor as someone who can motivate students to learn and build the students' confidence to recognize their strengths. I see myself as a communicative, friendly,…

Above all, I believe it is the moral support and social relationship as a mentor for the student. In my high school days, i went to alot of tutors and i learned the difference between a good and a bad tutor. Bad tutors i believe stay within the box, afraid to go out and expose the students true potential. A good tutor can not only help the student keep on track of school work and assist in any difficulties the student may have, but also push…

Local Reviews

All went well with Sharmin and James got a lot from the sessions.
Sharmin, Moonee Ponds

Inside Essendon WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Liam worked on decimals with addition and subtraction, using number lines to visualise calculations.

For Year 9, Olivia tackled factorisation of monic quadratics and solved area problems involving algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan revised trigonometry concepts—focusing on the Cartesian plane—and practised finding equations of lines using real-world examples from past assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student relied heavily on a formula sheet for finance problems—when asked to write out the interest formula from context, he paused and searched his notes instead. As one tutor observed, "he goes to his formula sheet for questions that in my opinion can be written... just by knowing how to use maths."

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student struggled with structuring her working out for index laws, leading to confusion during revision.

In Year 12 Physics, slow rearrangement of formulas and mixing up indices often forced extra time spent reworking steps rather than deepening understanding of concepts like relativity.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon West tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to get stuck on physics formula work—now he's confidently picking the right formulas and manipulating them without hesitation.

A Year 10 student recently tackled factorising trinomials in her head and started checking her answers independently, instead of waiting for prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has gone from guessing at addition to carrying out sums in his head perfectly, showing real focus during sessions.

Last week, Sam handed in an essay that received strong teacher feedback after previously struggling to express his ideas clearly.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Bernard's College.
