Most students struggle to gain confidence in solving problems which in turn leads them to be unmotivated to study. Therefore, I believe that tutoring is not just teaching concepts but also building an environment where students feel comfortable to make mistakes and learn from it. From experience, I believe that the most effective way is to…

Leave them with a proper process with answering questions under time pressure. Make learning if not enjoyable at least tolerable, as learning new things is much harder if you don’t have any interest in it. Make your teaching digestible for the student depending on their level of understanding - not too easy not too hard. Breaking down complex…

The most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student include helping them find confidence in themselves and discovering the ways in which they learn best. If a student wishes to achieve their goals, they must first believe that they have the capacity to do so. Therefore, if a tutor can assist a student in developing the self-confidence…

Paying attention on them. A student sometimes have fear and won't ask their doubts. As tutors we must pay attention to them and see what they need. If not the students won't achieve their goals. Make them feel comfortable with you so they interact with you during the class as high interactive classes makes the subject more interesting and students tend to start liking the subject as well thereby spending more time with the subject. I believe the most important things a chemistry tutor can do for a student, is to show the easiest method to learn the content of the subject. A tutor can teach the way to decode the subject matter. Once, the tutor teach the method to learn and the student understand that method, a student should become independent to learn similar topics. I think…

Local Reviews

All went well with Sharmin and James got a lot from the sessions.
Sharmin, Moonee Ponds

Inside Essendon WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Liam worked on decimals with addition and subtraction, using number lines to visualise calculations.

For Year 9, Olivia tackled factorisation of monic quadratics and solved area problems involving algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan revised trigonometry concepts—focusing on the Cartesian plane—and practised finding equations of lines using real-world examples from past assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student relied heavily on a formula sheet for finance problems—when asked to write out the interest formula from context, he paused and searched his notes instead. As one tutor observed, "he goes to his formula sheet for questions that in my opinion can be written... just by knowing how to use maths."

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student struggled with structuring her working out for index laws, leading to confusion during revision.

In Year 12 Physics, slow rearrangement of formulas and mixing up indices often forced extra time spent reworking steps rather than deepening understanding of concepts like relativity.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon West tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to get stuck on physics formula work—now he's confidently picking the right formulas and manipulating them without hesitation.

A Year 10 student recently tackled factorising trinomials in her head and started checking her answers independently, instead of waiting for prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has gone from guessing at addition to carrying out sums in his head perfectly, showing real focus during sessions.

Last week, Sam handed in an essay that received strong teacher feedback after previously struggling to express his ideas clearly.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Bernard's College.
