I assert that successful tutors are able to build strong relationships with their students as it personalizes learning. Another thing is to teach to the student's strengths and minimizes the students weaknesses. Every student and their way of learning is different, so, as a tutor, one should be flexible according to the needs of the perplexed…

To help the student learn and understand the material. Provide support when they are having a tough time learning and understanding. Hopefully these things lead to an increase in confidence with the work. If a student does not understand anything explain the material as best he/she can. If the student has had a hard time at school or on social media just be there to listen to he/she and up to the tutor's discretion how to act on that knowledge, e.g. inform the parents if the student has said not too, inform the school, their teacher, tutor to seek…

I think the most important thing a tutor can be is patient and supportive. As tutors, we have already completed these subjects, and so we know the 'pressure points' and ways to deal with them. It is our job to pass on this knowledge and help others. If someone is receiving tutoring, most often they are struggling with one or more parts of a topic…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest strength…

A tutor can explain the main concept, however, the related questions must be solved by the student itself as it promotes the concept of self-learning. As a tutor, I can sometimes unkowingly become their biggest cheerleader and that could really help them overcome any emotional stress that could become a hindrance in their studies. Therefore, a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be there for them and understand their strengths as well as weaknesses. Not all students will be great at every subject however, that does not mean that there is no chance to improve or work harder. Working on a subject with the right help can increase the confidence, which will slowly lead…

A tutor should not be someone who forces children to study. He or she should be a good friend, mentor for every child. He or she should be able to show patience and empathy to her students and stand with them in achieving their dreams. As a tutor, my major strengths are good communication skills and patience. I strongly want my students to…

A tutor's role is to help guide a student through problems to discover the information for themselves, not to simply complete the question and move on. A tutor should also be available to answer any question a student may have, ensuring they understand the content being delivered. Moving at a pace suited to the student while also moving at the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is helping around with the difficulties the student is facing in their curriculum. Improving on their weaknesses on the whole improves the quality of learning and makes them more viable to achieve their potential. After parents, only a tutor is solely responsible to make students very attentive and aware them about their responsibility towards nature and society. Also, a tutor can start from basic concept of any topic till advance level. So, a tutor can improve their efficiency, productivity and a better development of the society. As I have experience of…

Build confidence, explain concepts clearly, and make students feel comfortable asking questions. I think it's important to be supportive and help students actually understand the content, not just memorise it. I'm patient, calm, and a clear communicator. I'm happy to explain things as many times as needed and in different ways until it clicks.…

Be patient, I know from experience it can be hard for students to learn when you feel rushed or your questions are unimportant. Therefore, allowing students to feel as though they can take the time to ask all types of questions to support their confidence is invaluable to an educator. I am patient and judgment-free, I allow students to ask…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is teach them to learn. I believe that a tutor should make a student feel safe enough that they ask as many questions as they need to ask in order to fully understand a topic. A tutor should encourage the student to believe in their own abilities and develop the student's confidence to allow them to eventually approach and solve problems on their own. I believe this type…

Inside Fairview ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex worked through arranging fractions on a number line and explored the relationship between fractions and decimals.

In Year 10, Emma practised applying the area of a triangle formula to different problems and built confidence with function notation, also touching on physics formulas for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Noah revised exponential functions and logarithms, focusing on growth and decay models using real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, a student's messy working made solutions difficult to follow—"he needs to be a little cautious of the way he sets out his working," one tutor noted.

In Year 12 Biology, another student hesitated to ask clarifying questions during lessons on homeostasis, limiting deeper understanding and feedback use.

Meanwhile, in Year 7, poor time management led to incomplete assignments and stress balancing schoolwork with other activities.

A lack of confidence surfaced across several year levels: students second-guessed themselves or doubted correct steps in algebra and geometry problems, leading to hesitation rather than steady progress.

Recent Achievements

One Fairview Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to be hesitant about physics—she's now managing her study time much better and recently celebrated a strong test result that gave her an extra boost.

In Year 10, another student who was once reluctant to speak up has started asking more questions during sessions and is now checking her answers on her own, even tackling extra homework without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously struggled with reading aloud managed to finish an entire chapter from "The Faraway Tree" by herself this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surrey Downs Primary School.
