I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand its individual needs. Every student has unique learning styles, strengths, and areas for improvement. It's essential to take the time to understand each student's specific needs, challenges, and goals. By assessing their current knowledge and identifying gaps in…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instill confidence in them and encourage them to be determined. As a student myself, I understand feeling defeated but a good mentor will assure the student that it is okay to not comprehend things and to lean on them when they feel poor. I believe I am articulate. I explain…

be compassionate with your students and believe in them. I believe students tend to believe a lot of what their teacher's think about them and they look up to their tutors. Hence, if the tutor is compassionate with his student, that can really create a strong desire to succeed in his students. Strong technical knowledge, adaptable to different…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be kind and patient with a student. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
