I consider creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere as paramount for a tutor. Beyond academic assistance, it involves nurturing confidence, offering constructive feedback, and acknowledging achievements. Tailoring teaching methods to accommodate individual learning styles is equally vital. Effective communication, coupled with active…

I think some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student are: Make their learning experience enjoyable by making learning creative. Making students feel confident about themselves and in the subject. Most importantly making the subject interesting and igniting curiosity in students. As a person, I am someone who is really patient…

The most importat thing I believe is to be available for a student when he/she needs you. It is also important to be accessible to them by answering all their doubts and be there for them till they understand a certain concept. I can be a student's friend and help them understand every concept by being their confidante. I can make them enjoy their…

Empowering the student is the most important thing I can do as a tutor. It is clear to me that my goal is not for the student to be dependent on me as a tutor. But, I am there to help and guide, to support and mentor, so that the student becomes capable and confident to do things on their own and progress further. Empowering someone else is not an…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence while helping them understand the subject. It’s not just about giving answers but helping them learn how to think and solve problems on their own. Creating a supportive and patient environment is also really important so students feel comfortable asking questions.…

Give them confidence that they can succeed. I believe with that with the right mindset almost anyone can succeed. Often students just lack confidence in their abilities which results in less effort in the unit and thus worse results. I am passionate about what I do. I care about my job and the students I tutor. I want them to do well and I think…

There are so many things a tutor can do. Firstly, the tutor needs to know about the student bery well where his weak points are and what are his strong points. A tutor is basically a role model for the student. If a tutor can quickly solve anonymous problem then student can definitely be motivated and solve there sums. Additionally, Tutor should also connect with the student so that student can discuss the issues faced by them before the exam. Tutors should conduct regular test and provide quick…

To reiterate, I think personalization is a key facet of good tutoring. Every student is likely to have different needs and learning styles, and it is important to adapt course material and teaching style to best suit their needs, while clarifying concepts effectively and accurately. Also, making the concept/subject appear less daunting and more…

Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
