Clear concepts. Once your concepts are clear you can do any kind of question, sometimes even harder questions. Every concept especially in economics and maths have diagrams, I love working with diagrams and I think those are the best things tutors can do for a student. I think I give good real life examples and good diagrams to make concepts…

Being patient and understanding. Not every student learns the same or is a carbon copy of the others. Treating the student with respect and understanding are essential to a positive experience for both the student and the tutor. As a tutor, I believe I am great at meeting the student where they are at. Before a session I attempt to understand how…

I believe a good tutor has the ability to transcend their role as a tutor and become a role model for their students. Further, helping a student overcome their fears or challenges for a particular subject is incredibly helpful. I am able to connect with my students and understand their issues from their perspective. This allows me to curate my…

The most important things would be to not only effectively teach the student and make them understand/ learn better, but also impart important study skills, that the tutor has learnt through his/ her personal academic experiences, to equip the student to be able to perform well even in the future. I think one of my biggest strengths is my calm…

To be consoling and confident, so that the student believes in you. To have a very good relationship with the student is an important key because it releases the stress on the student-tutor barrier, which is important especially during learning. Additionally, to motivate the student in achieving intellectual barriers. I am a people person as i am…

Secondly, a tutor should not use a standard classroom approach to tutoring and rather coach and train the student accordingly to the requirements of the student as every individual learns and absorbs information differently.…

In my view, the most important things a tutor can do is listen patiently to the student, guide them in the right direction, build trust, encourage, and support to drive to excellence. In general, I believe that the best way to teach Maths/Science is in a way which the student understands the concepts rather than just giving the student a method to produce an answer, which is how these subjects are commonly taught. 1. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and confident. A lot of students actually understand more than they think, but they might be anxious, unsure, or afraid of making mistakes. So I see my role as creating a space where they feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. Another…

My first lesson with bavadharini was awesome (even my mum was impressed)! It took a test run to get here but I couldn't be more pleased with this system! I look forward to our future lessons together :)

Inside FlemingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alice worked on calculating mean, median, mode, and range in statistics as well as identifying angles with symmetry using visual examples.

In Year 9, Bita practised solving linear equations and worked through a worksheet on mean, median and mode provided by her teacher.

For Year 10, Laura focused on revising algebra and graphing techniques from the Year 11 curriculum to strengthen her foundation for upcoming studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for a statistics test hesitated to share which probability topics felt hardest, making it difficult to target weak spots; her notebook was also missing dates, so tracking progress became confusing.

In Year 9 algebra, as one tutor put it, "he skipped showing steps in simplification, which hid sign errors"—extra time was then spent hunting mistakes instead of building confidence.

A Year 7 student left homework incomplete before lessons and struggled with organizing exercise books and teacher feedback requests.

During Year 12 revision, reluctance to attempt unfamiliar graph questions led to gaps ahead of the upcoming test.

Recent Achievements

One Flemington tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to freeze up on tough algebra questions—now, after working through some challenging Further Maths problems, he confidently explained his reasoning and tackled even the trickiest ones without hesitation.

In another session, a Year 9 student who'd struggled to distinguish between explanatory and response variables was able to clearly verbalise his thought process and correctly identify each one during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once guessed at answers now talks through her multiplication steps out loud and checks her work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Community High School.
