I believe be able to help students in study is one important thing. However helping them emotionally and in life could be essential for them. As they might have had a bad day at school or didn’t get good marks in exams. There’s few things I believe that’s more important than study. I believe I can help kids understanding a concept during…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for the student is to make them feel confident within their learning space, to boost their self esteem and help them come to the understanding that they can do anything that they put the effort into. By helping them obtain this confidence, tutoring becomes the act of tackling a certain…

I think self-taught is the most important thing that a tutor can teach a student. This is because self-taught can go with them anywhere but the tutor can not. Additionally, a tutor can not teach a student everything, so at some points, the student needs to explore themselves. I am patient and independent in studying. This is because I have been…

Make them feel comfortable with you so they interact with you during the class as high interactive classes makes the subject more interesting and students tend to start liking the subject as well thereby spending more time with the subject. I also think tutors must try to shorten the notes they give and make it very specific so students can easily…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there with them, really listening and understanding. When we connect on a personal level and show genuine interest, it sparks their curiosity and makes them want to learn more. A tutor must make sure that the student understand the course material, while making the class enjoyable at the same time. It is also essential for a tutor to give students practice questions / past paper questions to help them familiarize with the exam format, and having an answer discussion afterwards. Always being understanding and patient. There are a lot of things that can make a student feel low and not special and as a tutor, we need to play to their strengths instead of the majority. Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. Understanding the student's learning pace: Every student is unique and have their own pace of learning. As a tutor you need to adapt to that. I am…

Listen and understand, as well as not rushing them but still applying pressure to their studies, most students lack confidence within themselves, so inspiring confidence within a student is a huge base step to learning. I think it is most important to be patient with the students and to ensure they properly understand the concepts being taught before moving onto the next topic. You must also be understanding and empathic with the students to show you can appreciate where they are coming from or why they are thinking a certain way whether it is in the way they…

Inside FlemingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alice worked on calculating mean, median, mode, and range in statistics as well as identifying angles with symmetry using visual examples.

In Year 9, Bita practised solving linear equations and worked through a worksheet on mean, median and mode provided by her teacher.

For Year 10, Laura focused on revising algebra and graphing techniques from the Year 11 curriculum to strengthen her foundation for upcoming studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for a statistics test hesitated to share which probability topics felt hardest, making it difficult to target weak spots; her notebook was also missing dates, so tracking progress became confusing.

In Year 9 algebra, as one tutor put it, "he skipped showing steps in simplification, which hid sign errors"—extra time was then spent hunting mistakes instead of building confidence.

A Year 7 student left homework incomplete before lessons and struggled with organizing exercise books and teacher feedback requests.

During Year 12 revision, reluctance to attempt unfamiliar graph questions led to gaps ahead of the upcoming test.

Recent Achievements

One Flemington tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to freeze up on tough algebra questions—now, after working through some challenging Further Maths problems, he confidently explained his reasoning and tackled even the trickiest ones without hesitation.

In another session, a Year 9 student who'd struggled to distinguish between explanatory and response variables was able to clearly verbalise his thought process and correctly identify each one during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once guessed at answers now talks through her multiplication steps out loud and checks her work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Community High School.
