I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to alleviate the stress of schoolwork and provide different perspectives in regards to question s and concepts so they may have a better understanding of what is required of them and how to approach their work. Everyone learns in different ways so it is very important to approach…

The most important thing a tutor can do is take the time to fully understand the needs of each individual student, to help them come up with appropriate goals/learning objectives, and to do everything in their power to help the student meet these goals. This takes time, dedication, and a lot of hard work but ultimately, it will help students feel…

The first thing I believe a tutor should do for a student is prepare well before meeting them. Preparing and organizing the lesson prior makes the time spent tutoring more effective. The second most important thing would be patience and the ability to accommodate to a student's needs. I am patient with people. This allows me to repeat my…

I think giving the student your full attention and not making them feel rushed is so important. Students won't ask for help if they feel they are irritating you or if they are scared of getting made fun of for not understanding a topic straight away. Creative a positive, patient environment for a student is key for their learning. I am very…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help students be confident and believe in themselves. There'll be times they encounter difficult problems or don't get what they expect. It's important to stay positive, believe in your potential to not give up. As a tutor, I'll help them to achieve this by encouraging confidence and…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

As a tutor, I firmly believe in the profound impact that effective education can have on a student's life. Drawing from my experience in teaching as a CSR activity, I recognize several essential aspects that I consider crucial in nurturing a student's growth and learning journey. 1. Fostering Understanding: One of the most important things I…

Whilst a tutor is only present with their student for a limited time, they can help by providing a clear understanding of what the syllabus wants and giving resources. They are also there to answer and clarify a student’s questions and assist in developing a structured work routine. Since I have recently completed the HSC and have studied the…

It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

Create a comfortable, relaxed environment to learn and ask questions. Improve confidence: many students don't know what they're capable of, and just need the self-belief to show it off. Inside Forest LodgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Blake worked on recognising fractions using the Fraction Run game and completed reading comprehension activities on Thunder and Lightning, as well as vertical algorithms for maths.

Year 8 focused on algebra with lessons covering adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, factorisation, and contextual problem solving using equations.

For Year 5, Aditi practised imaginative story writing by building a story arc in her short story "Turkey Head" and strengthened grammar skills through tense revision and vocabulary extension games.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was reluctant to attempt persuasive writing, needing encouragement to start, and often hesitated with challenging maths reasoning tasks—"he doubted his ability and was slow to begin," noted a tutor.

In Year 7 maths, one student's distraction with online features like BitPaper tabs led to unfinished algorithms and interruptions in focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling algebra sometimes avoided self-editing, leaving errors uncorrected and missing feedback opportunities.

For a senior (Year 11) preparing for exams, over-reliance on calculators slowed manual calculation speed during factorization drills; this made timed practice less effective and increased anxiety under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Forest Lodge noticed that a Year 9 student who used to procrastinate now attempts answers straight away, even when unsure—showing more initiative and less hesitation than before.

In another session, a Year 11 student who often struggled to focus was able to finish all their assigned homework without reminders and even asked for extra practice questions on topics they'd previously avoided.

For a younger learner in Year 4, using a visible "to-do" list helped him independently organise his tasks and move from one activity to the next with much less prompting than earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forest Lodge Public School.
