It's important to stay positive, believe in your potential to not give up. As a tutor, I'll help them to achieve this by encouraging confidence and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them reach their full potential in both academics and attitude towards the subject. My main goal in teaching is for my students to be able to appreciate the subject and make them actually want to learn the subject. I am really good at breaking things down in a way my student would…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

I believe a good tutor is making the student understand what they are learning but not how to get good result in their exam. Base of my past experience in attending tuition, my tutors tend to explain mathematics theorem in detail so we could understand them better and not only just to memorise when to use the formula. Also I believe practice makes…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to learn with the students. In my experience, students are much more likely to engage with the lessons and motivated to excel if they feel that they are learning together with the tutor. My key strengths as a tutor are: 1. I excel at explaining complex concepts in an easy-to-understand…

The most important role that a tutor can play in the betterment of students is to help them build self-efficacy as the "can-do" attitude solves multiple problems. The self believe helps the student gain confidence which will eventually play a role in their academic learning. The motivation of being successful in gaining mathematical skills often…

Whilst a tutor is only present with their student for a limited time, they can help by providing a clear understanding of what the syllabus wants and giving resources. They are also there to answer and clarify a student’s questions and assist in developing a structured work routine. Since I have recently completed the HSC and have studied the…

I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. I consider patience and dedication to be the most valuable qualities a tutor can provide. The student needs to feel supported in a learning environment to succeed, especially if it is a subject they aren't particularly strong at. As a former HSC student, I honestly felt the 'tough love' approach some tutors had would deter me from wanting to study…

The most important thing is to be a tutor if she can develop these abilities in his student. 1. why they are studying a particular subject? 2. How they can understand the laws of nature by doing science. 3. How they can develop the ability to ask questions? 4. How they can find the right answers to their questions. 5. From my experience, the most impactful lesson a tutor can teach a student is how to research and study on his own in the long run. As Greg Reid once said, "A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes dreams come true." Therefore, I firmly believe that although…

It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. This means not only continuing teaching the student but also means that the tutor should always believe a student can improve with their guidance. In addition, it is essential for a tutor to be able to learn the student's strengths and weaknesses and their way of thinking, so the…

The most important things as a tutor is avoid giving shortcuts to the students. If a student is struggling with a problem, I will let them think first, guide them with small things with only giving slight hints, and help them slowly reach to the answer themselves. Instead of just giving the formula or answers, I focus on helping them understand…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

Inside Forest LodgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Blake worked on recognising fractions using the Fraction Run game and completed reading comprehension activities on Thunder and Lightning, as well as vertical algorithms for maths.

Year 8 focused on algebra with lessons covering adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, factorisation, and contextual problem solving using equations.

For Year 5, Aditi practised imaginative story writing by building a story arc in her short story "Turkey Head" and strengthened grammar skills through tense revision and vocabulary extension games.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was reluctant to attempt persuasive writing, needing encouragement to start, and often hesitated with challenging maths reasoning tasks—"he doubted his ability and was slow to begin," noted a tutor.

In Year 7 maths, one student's distraction with online features like BitPaper tabs led to unfinished algorithms and interruptions in focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling algebra sometimes avoided self-editing, leaving errors uncorrected and missing feedback opportunities.

For a senior (Year 11) preparing for exams, over-reliance on calculators slowed manual calculation speed during factorization drills; this made timed practice less effective and increased anxiety under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Forest Lodge noticed that a Year 9 student who used to procrastinate now attempts answers straight away, even when unsure—showing more initiative and less hesitation than before.

In another session, a Year 11 student who often struggled to focus was able to finish all their assigned homework without reminders and even asked for extra practice questions on topics they'd previously avoided.

For a younger learner in Year 4, using a visible "to-do" list helped him independently organise his tasks and move from one activity to the next with much less prompting than earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forest Lodge Public School.
