I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Moreover, a tutor should guide their students in a manner in which they can focus on key areas of improvement and then work on realistic goals, which…

The most important thing that I can do as a tutor would be to make sure the kid understands everything that I teach. Each kid is different. Finding the right teaching style for that kid and teaching as such will make the kid more involved into the subject and makes learning fun. I am a very good observer and an active listener. I make sure I tend…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

A tutor needs to be patient and build a healthy learning curve. One of the most important things for a tutor is to be encouraging and positive. Negativity can lead to resentment towards a subject and deflect the student from making a genuine effort to learn. A tutor also needs to be well-versed with the material so they can teach the student as…

Create a comfortable, relaxed environment to learn and ask questions. Improve confidence: many students don't know what they're capable of, and just need the self-belief to show it off. Be able to react to a student's needs as they develop and progress in order to continue learning as efficiently as possible. I believe I am relatable and good…

Inside GlebeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Chloe focused on solving algebraic equations by finding the value of x and practiced simplifying expressions, as well as working through percentage problems such as increasing or decreasing values and calculating GST.

In Year 9, Liam worked on ratios and rates with practical examples and was introduced to basic factorisation skills.

For a younger learner in Year 5, Emma strengthened her understanding of area calculations alongside strategies for division using visual models.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student missed a scheduled Zoom lesson, meaning they lost out on targeted feedback just before a key trigonometry assessment.

For one Year 11, "notes were disorganised and it was difficult to find the formulas for cosine rule when revising," which slowed down practice and led to confusion in test conditions.

In Year 8, errors in homework weren't reviewed, so similar mistakes kept appearing with ratios and percentages.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner's times tables practice focused only on familiar numbers—new patterns were avoided if they felt uncertain or slow, causing hesitation when solving multi-step word problems under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Glebe tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to show working now carefully explains each algebraic step aloud, especially when evaluating tricky fractions.

Another high schooler began the term making frequent errors with quadratic equations but recently completed an entire worksheet without needing hints—self-correcting two mistakes along the way.

For a younger learner in Year 4, times tables had been a real challenge, yet last session he jumped straight into practice questions and got nearly all of them right without prompting or counting on fingers.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St James Catholic Primary School.
